Hi I am on day 18 of my 2nd whole 30 been doing really well, reduced amount of fruit as well and felt great initially. However for the last week I have had an increase in fibromyalgia symptoms. For the past 2 days I have had severe headaches and neck pain and extreme fatigue. My run yesterday was awful I did it but it was hell and today I don't have the energy to work out. I am eating low carb for me, about 50-75 grams most days( I know it's not low carb for many of you) and I feel exhausted all the time. I am eating plenty of fat and protein. I will complete my whole 30 but just wondered if this is a normal experience, it didn't happen last time. I have had positive results my skin and hair look so much better, I have obviously lost weight (not weighed myself though), and I have less anxiety.
The only difference this week is I had a gastroscopy on Tuesday but no sedation only a local anaesthetic spray and they took some biopsies. Could this have had an effect. I can't wait for the magic to happen, feeling pretty rough right now.

Results vary from person to person and even Whole 30 to Whole 30. It could just be a "gets worse before it gets better" thing, or it could be something else. Here are some ideas:

    1. Check your iron levels. Look at your nail beds and gums. What color are they? Pale pink, white, or yellow means you're not absorbing enough iron and are anemic. This can account for the fatigue and headaches (I just dealt with this myself, actually). Some iron supplements can help bring them up quickly, and some tweaks in your diet can help keep it right over the long run (if you do have problems with anemia, watch your calcium intake with iron-rich foods, and pair iron-rich foods with sources of vitamin C).

    2. Check your magnesium intake. I don't know of tests for this one that you can do, but double check and make sure you're getting enough magnesium.

    3. Check the rest of the electrolytes. We've been conditioned to watch our sodium intake, but both low carb and whole foods diets can actually result in not enough sodium. This can also throw off your balance with potassium. So make sure you're getting enough sodium and potassium, as well. In my experience, one of the manifestations of sodium deficiency is poor sleep (which may be contributing to your fatigue).

    4. Consider a low FODMAP diet (check out AIP). You may have found some foods that your body doesn't tolerate well, and the Fibro might benefit from eating foods that don't have a lot of FODMAPs, which can also cause inflammation issues.

    5. It may be a detox/withdrawal reaction. Did you recently stop eating something that you used to eat? Even some of the foods that are Whole 30 approved may have a withdrawal effect after you stop eating it. It may also be a sort of delayed withdrawal effect of something you cut out going into the Whole 30. It might be worth taking a look at and seeing if there was something that might be causing it that you may have stopped eating for whatever reason.

Thanks for your reply sorry it's taken so long to reply back been on holiday. I don't think I am anaemic but I have in the past suffered from a low ferritin level so it could be that. I haven't been taking a supplement I figured I didn't need it because I eat so well but maybe I should.
I think the problem is eggs I had food intolerance testing a while back and it showed a major intolerance to eggs particularly the whites. I avoided them for 3 months but it obviously wasn't long enough. I have cut them out of my diet again which I am sad about but I will get over it. The only issue with not eating eggs is I am struggling for breakfast eaten fruit the past few days but I don't want to rely on fruit.
The results of my gastroscopy showed severe gastritis and my GP has increased my lanzoprazole, I am taking this for the moment and will review this later. She also wants me back on the amytriptiline for the pain, I hate taking meds so am resisting this for the time being.
I am frustrated with myself at the moment I used to be a good runner (pre diagnosis) my longest run was 18 miles, I now struggle with 4. This is hard for me to deal with and I want to get back to those days. I will get back there it's just gonna take time and patience.
