Sorry I know this had probably been asked before I have flicked through previous post but can't find anything.

Who counts calories along side a low carb diet plan? I'm thinking of following a low carb plan called terriann123, similar to dukan diet I have been advised by the group not to count calories, the plan says to eat 250g protein at breakfast, lunch and dinner and 3 snack in between that contain 50g protein sauces are limited, fruit and veg is not allowed until the stage two after the 10 day boos and then it's only allowed on 2 days a week in small quantity the only carbs really is up to 2 fat free yogurts a day unlimited lettuce, onion, mushrooms, peppers and also low carb high protein shake twice a day.

Thanks

Can you double check this plan?

250g in a day is overkill for most people. 250g per meal for 3 meals plus 3 snacks at 50g is 900g of protein.

    Is this really correct?

If you have $18.50 you want to waste, feel free to send me an Amazon gift card.

If you don't. Make sure you don't pay for this book.

I counted both carbs and calories when I was losing and continue to do so in maintenance, because it works. And the plan you're considering sounds odd to me. For one thing, your kidneys may have trouble processing that much protein, and an excess of protein turns into....sugar. Additionally, low carb goes hand in hand with high fat. So advice to eat fat free yogurt sounds, well, rather absurd.

That's still an excessive amount of protein (about 185g/day) and a very insufficient amount of fat (about 50g).

Depending on how much wiggle room you have with the fat (probably not much considering the low-fat yogurt recommendation), you're look at around 1,300 calories a day up to maybe 1,500 calories a day. Sure, you'll probably lose weight. But, it's seriously not worth the restrictions nor the price.

I also love the fact that she has rules against sharing the rules of her diet with others. Heck, if you have 3 people in the house that want to do it, she has the audacity to demand that you buy a second book! Seriously? It makes it very hard for clear, honest reviews to be published. It makes it nearly impossible for proper nutritional analyses to be done. It basically makes it easier for her to snow (that is bluff) people with fake claims that don't represent the real results because no one has any information to say otherwise.

Ah ok thanks for feedback, there are other items you are allowed to split throughout the week too

    Low fat cottage cheese
    3tbs marinade
    40g low fat cheese
    2 small packets fridge raiders
    2 Birdseye chicken chargrills

And around another 20 items, I know this diet does work I see people posting every single day on the Facebook group page as well as my manager who has lost around 3st, but your right I think I'm struggling because I'm so use to been on a diet for 4 years+ and first time trying fitness pal it doesn't seem like I'm on any diet at all it's a walk in the park and am losing steady on it think I must have become addicted to dieting lol.

I do low carb, but count calories, as well. I don't worry if I go over my target much (1300), but I do try to stay around that. Have you calculated your macros? That may work better for you. I don't think I'd do well with so many restrictions.

Whether or not a diet works in the short term is not necessarily an indicator of the long term effectiveness or sustainability of the diet nor is it an indicator of the stresses you may endure while on the diet.

For example, I could tell you to only eat lettuce and take a multi vitamin and this diet will cause you to lose weight rapidly. It wouldn't be a good idea to do, however. The same could be said for the plan you've listed although not as extreme as my absurd lettuce example.

I don't say this to insult you, just so we're clear.

It doesn't matter if you know some people who lost weight doing this. I don't know how to make that any more clear. There are many reasons these testimonials don't matter, but the biggest one is confirmation bias. That is, the only people who talk about their results are the ones who it worked for.

That diet sounds abysmal though. Low fat cheese? Really? Yuck! Low fat and low carb is a bad combination (and that's what this diet is aiming for).

In case anyone else comes across this topic through search. If you are considering a low carb, high protein diet such as those listed above, please do so under medical supervision. Such diets can cause nutritional deficiencies and should be monitored by your doctor. Low carb, high protein diets are generally reserved for extreme weight loss needs such as those seeking major weight loss surgery.
