Sherry, hope you'll be able to sort things out soon!

Laura, how did your weigh-in go yesterday?

I'm on a strict nothing-but-pilates workout routine now since both my knees are now hurting when I move certain ways and my right foot is also starting to pipe up :/ Hopefully the physiotherapist will be helpful, got the appointment next week. That being said, Laura, I agree, it's so much better when it's challenging. Since I'm following a beginner's programme, today that showed and it was way too easy and short for me. So I just randomly picked another youtube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SN-TQDqWXU) and oh boy....it's only four exercises but so many repetitions that towards the end of each of them I had to take short breaks (and also literally wanted to cry). So, awesome workout after all

    Have a good day everyone!

I'm slowly getting back into my routine. Tuesday was trainer workout. Wednesday I ran (took me all day to get started, but I ran). Today will be trainer homework. Friday I will run. Saturday I plan to go to the fitness studio and try their "Total Body Strength" workout. Sunday I will run/walk the Skirt Sport's virtual half marathon. I'm really hoping to run most of it.

Hello Ines! Glad that you were able to find a video that seems to have worked for you, harder than your current DVD, but not so hard thast you couldn't do it. Hope that you knees start to feel better. That is one really nice result that I've had from my weight loss and my running. My right knee that never seemed to be right is starting to get better and stronger. Yeah!

Maureli, hope you enjoyed your rest day yesterday!

Laura, hope you weigh-in went well.

Really sorry about your shoulder, Marla. Hope it feels better soon. I guess, like me, you're just getting back into normal home routine, too.

Sherry, hope today is better than it's been with you lately and you can get back into your normal 2 parent routine as soon as possible. Does your son have the summer off of school and at loose ends (i.e. relying on you for entertainment), or is it different in Greece?

Hope today is a better day Sherry! I just did some threadstarters because I noticed we had run out and it sounds like your plate is full.

For those of you who are new to the group if you come across something inspirational, feel free to create topics for new days! I usually scroll through to see what the next empty day is (sometimes Sherry will do a bunch at once so you might have to scroll back a bit to see where she left off). I did through June 2 or 3, I think.

Ines it's too bad you can't go to a Pilates class. I own a ton of fitness DVDs, but after doing a some live classes (Zumba, Pilates & Yoga specifically) I had a hard time going back to the videos because I really like the variety that. Of course now with YouTube there are a bunch of options out there too!

My weigh-in went well. Over the past two weeks I had gained 1.8 pounds but I was down 2 pounds last night, so that extra weight was gone again and I just squeaked a little bit lower. So now I just need to keep that going. I'm traveling tomorrow & Saturday for my niece's wedding, so eating will be challenging. I am bringing my running stuff with me and plan to get in my run Saturday morning (the wedding is Friday night). I'm driving with my parents and they're meeting some friends for breakfast at 9:00, which will likely take a couple of hours, so I have time to get in a good run & get cleaned up before they're done with that. According to my niece there's a paved trail just a block or two from my hotel that runs along the portage canal, so there's even a good place to run.

Hope everybody else is doing well!

    Hey there!

Things are gradually looking up here and I'm trying to get my head clear again.

Ines, you are pretty awesome doing Cassey's workouts! I tried a few of hers and they feel like they really work, but I found that some were just plain impossible for me. That was last year, before I joined the gym. The problem I had was that I didn't know how to gauge which were the ones that were difficult, but effective; and which were too difficult (in which case I couldn't do the moves, making it ineffective--that's FOR ME...others have had INCREDIBLE results working out with Cassey/Blogilates). Good luck! (Also, she is so perky and motivational.)

Donna, your plan for the week sound GREAT! Funny how those types of (workout) plans make me drool these days, more than parties or social plans. Good luck with the HM. May I ask what is a "Virtual" HM? Yep, here school let's out mid-June and normally we have family visiting and find ourselves being thrown about, between our plans and their plans. Too often we have had to stay in the city, which is totally MISERABLE (hot, no a/c, very little to do) and other times we've found ourselves on various islands all Summer. This year, brother-in-law visiting for the Summer, during which we will leave him in the middle of his stay, to go to the USA for a month, then we'll come back and go to an island for part of August. I was hoping to put son in a day camp, but when the USA trip came up, that got shelved.

Laura, thanks for the threadstarters and for spreading the word--we welcome anyone who wants to create threadstarters. I really look forward to having a message or image in each daily thread and it keeps my consistency up. Congrats on another good weigh-in! Have fun at the wedding and good luck with running there and with the food temptations. My oldest nephew is graduating this year. I can't imagine having a niece/nephew to get married--although it will happen eventually. I'll be needing some good waterproof mascara the day that happens!

Okay, finally, to my check-in...today it was threatening rain, so I went for a run, but kept it nearby. Only about 32 minutes--but a very productive run! I think I have figured out what's been happening with my ankle/achilles! I'll know better after another run or two, but I'm hopeful. Also, funny thing happened. I ran to the forest park, ran through it, got a drink from the water fountain and ran out the other side. As I ran out, a guy who I see running there daily was also leaving (he got on a moto). I ran up the highway, through a neighborhood, across a highway, into another neighborhood, and suddenly he pulled up behind me--parking, apparently at home. He said some stuff to me in Greek and laughed. He apparently was commenting about how he takes the moto to the park to run, but I just run the distance and got there as quick as he did! lol!

Sorry the long post, but you know how I love to blab!
    Have a good one!!!

Well I did it this time, I must have pinched a nerve because this isn't going away....and I have so much to do!

So down for the count for awhile...rest, slow walk until pain is better then special exercises I found to strengthen the area.

Sherry, here's more information on the virtual half marathon:
    http://www.skirtsportshalf.com/

Basically, Skirt Sports is sponsoring a half marathon in Colorado on June 1st. I don't live anywhere near Colorado. However, they have an option to run a half marathon, by myself, on June 1st if I choose to, so I chose to do it. I did the higher amount virtual one which meant that I paid $115 to enter the marathon and immediately recieved a $100 gift certificate. I spent the $100 on skirts and shirts on sale and am happy with what I got. Then I got the race packet which had a few nice little things and a race tank top. So, I've definitely got my race fee back in merchandise.

Normally I wouldn't have signed up for a half marathon as the longest I have ever run at this point has been 7 miles. I meant to be up to 10 miles by now, but it didn't work out that way. But, I do have all day on Sunday to complete the distance, so even if I was in a lot worse shape than I am, there's no reason that I couldn't just walk the whole thing with the dogs. I do want to run though, at least for part of it.

I'm trying to decide on which option I'm going for and probably won't make the final decision until the day, based on how I'm feeling and the weather:
Option 1: walk it all with both dogs
Option 2: run my normal (i.e. distance plotted) 10k (with or without Fells) then return home, use the toliet, get both dogs and walk or run/walk the remaining distance with them.
Option 3: determine a half marathon route and just go out and do it myself without dogs. This will allow me to use a toliet in a store or restaurant along the route. It also means that I will be trying my best to cover the distance running as much as I can.

Option 1 will only happen if I'm really feeling too tired or sore or if it's just way too hot or humid to do otherwise. It's very unlikely. So I'm going back and forth between Options 2 and 3. Option 3 is leading at the moment.

Ok the question is push through pain or stop? I have been pushing and now forced to stop....

    What do you guys do?

I push through discomfort. I don't push through pain. I have (or had -- maybe, hopefully) a knee issue with my right knee. It would be uncomfortable during my run (or exercise), be sore afterward, and even swell up noticably. It had been bothering me for 7 years before I even started losing weight and getting fitter. I did have it seen by a specialist who said that it was caused by a muscle inbalance and my weight, but nothing beyond that. A combination of proper shoes sometimes, running minimally sometimes, and pushing up to, but not into real pain, have all meant that my knee has stopped bothering me routinely and when it does bother me, it's not as bad.

I had to be very careful for a while though that I didn't make it worse or cause problems with my other knee due to compensating for the problem one.

That sounds right, I guess where I get confused is exercising with light pain can turn into heavier pain later sometimes, or other times can help and pain goes away....

Marla I agree with Donna - if it's discomfort I try to initially push through it and see if it eases up. If it doesn't ease up, or if it's actual pain, then I rest. You don't want to make it worse or aggravate it further, which will just delay your recovery time.

Sherry sounds like your mental spirits are better today! Your story is funny. Wonder if that guy will feel sheepish the next time he gets in his car to drive there.

Donna one of my co-workers did a half marathon last year and the longest she had run before it was 5 miles. She did the same one I'm running (not a virtual one) and alternated running 3 minutes then walking 1 minute for the full 13.1 miles. She ended up finishing in 2:40, which is faster than I expect to finish and I hope to run the entire thing (except walking through the water/fuel stations). I'm just hoping to finish in under 3 hours (even if that's 2:59:59).
