When to start PFE's...any thoughts?

Hi all,

I'm about 35 pounds from goal and I'm very, very happy that I started this journey on Optifast. I feel so much better! After 24 weeks of the full fast, I'm looking forward to eating again, but I'm not willing to rush it for the sake of eating. My question is for those of you who have started your PFE's. I know some programs make people do it automatically. For those of you who have started, at what point did you start, and did you continue to lose weight? My group leader suggested we start about 10 pounds from goal. Any thoughts?

Thanks and I wish you all the best!

I'm not sure what PFEs are, but I am inferring that you mean food coming back into your life? My Optifast 800 in Cincinnati would only allow me to be on it for 18 weeks. I then had to start the "adapting" phase - 6 weeks of introducing food one week at a time. I am in week 3 (week 4 starts Friday) and I have still lost. Last week I lost 2 lbs. The week before, 4.4 lbs. I'm anxious to see what this week will be, as I don't feel as though I have lost weight, but we'll see. I hope this helps.

Hi, thanks for letting me know how your program works. It's more of a choice for us, so that's why I asked. Congratulations on your continued weight loss! That is wonderful! It was also the experience of the people in my class who transitioned back to food. They continued to lose. We're advised to start PFE's (Progressive Food Encounters) when we have 10 or 15 pounds more to lose. I'm leaning toward the 15 pound mark because I'm ready to eat again, and also I have the desire to bump up my exercise more.

My weight loss rate varied tremendously. Ironically, when I exercised a great deal, the weight came off more slowly. Make sure the you're getting lots of fluids, taking fiber powder and not exercising too much in the first few weeks. Walking and swimming seem to be adequate exercise for me while I'm on this program. I wish you all the best!
