I did not buy the Adtkins book.. I went by the web site for my induction ( my diary is open). I did not read anything about net carbs.. Are you low carbers counting carbs or net carbs? I just finished week two and since I only have 10lbs to lose I am moving on to phase two. It would be easier to use net carbs and choose high fiber low carb items. Just want to be sure that using net carbs is okay. Also, for any of you who are in stage 2 or 3 can I have a beer now if it is low carb? Mich ultra is 3 carbs for 12 ounces? Thanks in advance

I started low carb about 27 pounds ago, and I've always done the net carbs. I don't think I could survive without using the net carbs. But using net carbs has always worked for me. I have about 10lbs to lose until I get to what the BMI says is normal.
The alcohol is a trickier subject for me because the few times I've had alcohol, my weight loss stalled. I'm not sure if that's because of the alcohol (wine) or if I'm picking the wrong wine or if it was something else that I ate along with it. But I do know a few people who are low carbers who drink, and it doesn't seem to matter to them. And I also know that I've read that you can drink low carb alcohol on Atkins.0 -

Thank you! I think I am going to look for high fiber low card foods to give me additional choices. Not that I have been starving but I am soooo ready to up my carbs a bit due to limitations in my diet.0 -

I am one of the few who will stall or even retain water after drinking alcohol (MIchelob Ultra is my fav). I tried drinking water in between beers but that only made my buzz worse. Speaking of buzz, be careful. While doing low-carb it doesn't take near as much alcohol to feel the effects...I can drink 3 Ultras and nearly be drunk.0 -
Thanks, I had 2 last night and stopped. So far no boating and I am still in ketosis this morning. Now to figure out what to do about my leg cramps. I know I am not getting enough potassium even with multivitamins. I am adding Mortons no salt that has a high concentration on potassium chloride. Hope it helps!0

Magnesium helps me with my leg cramps....without it, I suffer big time at night!!!0

I always count net carbs. I love most veggies that have a higher carb rate and this helps tons. I feel that after phase 1 I felt tons better by adapting Atkin's to fit my lifestyle. As for beers etc... you will have to find what works for you; not everyone reacts the same with certain foods. I noticed that a couple of weeks ago I ate a sweet potato and was still in keto the next day. You've got this!!! Good luck0

As far as alcohol goes, if I count them in my carbs and calories for the day, I don't have trouble. Might be a little extra water weight in the morning which goes away before the next day and doesn't stall my overall weight loss.0 -
For cramps, I find using Sea Salt works best because it's full of trace minerals. If that isn't enough, get a magnesium supplement. It's usually mag, not potassium deficiency. If your heart is palpitating, then it's probably both you need ASAP. Ask your doctor what to do based on your symptoms.0
