Best Pre and Post Work Out Protein?

Hi all -- I eat 80/20 Paleo and sometimes have vegan protein shakes (I know -- it doesn't make sense). The protein shakes don't do it dor me. I am just wondering, what is everyone's opinion about the best pre and post workout protein or snake options?

    I recently started doing my workout in an IF state and after have a protein heavy breakfast (3 eggs, bacon, sausage or ham, burger patty at times, full fat cheese) it seems to help my muscles repair faster as I don't get the sore feeling as much as I did before trying this new regimen.

    Why shakes? Why not a real meal? Much more satisfying and you aren't putting things in your body that you can't pronounce...
