Hi everyone -
I'm a long time MFP user, but I think this is the first time I've posted in this group. I've always been overweight and have yo yo dieted for many years. I got back on track in December and have lost 30ish lbs since then. But the past month and half have been super stressful and my binge eating is out of control. I've accepted that I can't beat this on my own anymore and since I can't afford full time therapy right now I'm looking into attending a OA meeting. Has anyone tried OA? I'm also open to any other resources you've found helpful as well. Blogs, books, podcasts, etc. And I could use some MFP friends that know where I'm coming from so please send me a friend invite if you'd like.

Have a good day!

Hi FitBegins! I just joined this group too, after being in denial about my binging problem for, well, over half my life. I've never done OA but my best friend's mom is in it. It definitely worked for her (she lost over 150 lbs). She's VERY strict about her eating but I think it works out for her because 1) she has a great support system with her friends and family, plus OA and 2) she's not afraid to ask for accommodations (requesting a special meal at a restaurant, etc.). Another friend of mine is not in OA but she does have a therapy group she attends where they talk about the reasons behind their over-eating issues and they work through those emotions so they can find healthier ways to cope. I think the difference is that OA treats it as a true addiction, where as the therapy group focuses more on things like emotional eating and overcoming personal obstacles/experiences that resulted in the unhealthy relationship with food.

    I'll send you a friend request :)
