bumping today's thread
My brother-in-law arrives today and we are utterly unprepared. We only have to survive a few days crammed together in this flat, then the kids and I will be off. Meanwhile, we've hit that early stage of Summer vacation when my son is getting into trouble all the time. I'm going to need some stress-relief, so I'm really hoping to get out of the house this afternoon. I'd like to do a run and upper body at the gym, but just either of those things would be fine too.
Will read y'all later.0 -
Good luck with your brother-in-law and your son. Shifting from school to summer can be such a headache for everyone.
Yesterday was a good workout day for me. I got in a 5k run at lunch and set a new PR. I felt strong coming out. By mile 1, I was worried I might have been paced too fast and wouldn't be able to finish at the same speed. I did slow down a bit but not by much. I felt good at the end of the run too. I don't know that I'll see that time again for a good long while, but I felt so victorious afterwards. I had planned to do some light stretching/yoga when I got home, but I was hungry and tired so I skipped that. I had a nice quiet evening with my husband instead, which we seem to be missing more times than not with all of my training.0 -
Good morning everyone
So yesterday was windy, rainy and just miserable. It was suppose to be my run day, so I decided to just do a bunch of strength stuff on my own. I did some lunges with my weights, squats...this and that. Then, late afternoon it cleared off somewhat, the wind died down some and so I went out for a 5K run and actually had a good run. I think soon I will do some intervals.
Tonight is strength/cardio class. Might do some more yard work today too, once things dry off some.0 -
Good morning this morning!
I just joined this group and am jumping right in.
I’m still jet-lagged from traveling across three time zones. I overslept this am and didn’t work out. I’m going to try and get in my 8k steps today with a walk at lunch.
In my morning frenzy, I did manage to toss some chicken breasts in the crockpot. I put in a lot of chicken so that we can have pulled chicken with steamed broccoli for dinner tonight and use the leftovers to make a chicken casserole Sat.0 -
Today's saying really fits me today. I'm hungry. I'm tired. My muscles hurt. Yesterday was (accidently) a rest day, yet I don't feel rested. I need more sleep. Yet, I do belive that I am getting fitter and healthier in general and that continues to be my goal.
Tuesday I had a hard workout with my trainer. I don't know why it was hard because it was the same workout as two weeks ago, which was difficult, but not as hard this current one was. So yesterday Wednesday, I was sore, but yesterday was supposed to be the first bootcamp class that I could get to, so I went. Got there and couldn't find the class. They had moved it to another area of the building and forgot to tell those of us who had missed the first week. Eventually I went to the work gym and ran a bit more than a half mile on the treadmill just to do something and then saw the people returning from the class, so stopped. That's all the exercise I did yesterday, well and some walking. I was HOT after work! So I walked only.
Today I got up early and Fells and I did a 3.5 mile run. Since I didn't count yesterday's exercise anywhere I decided to add that to this morning, time (to my MFP exercise entry) and distance (to my determination of whether I ran 22 miles this week). So I'm adding 4 miles to my accumulated total. Fells won;t run with me tomorrow because of the flyball tournament this weekend. I learned my lesson. No long runs with Fells just before I want him to do his best in a sport. We're being lent out to another team and so I especially want him to do as well as he can.
According to my schedule, tomorrow will be a 7 mile run. That will leave me to do two small runs (2.5 miles each day) on the flyball tournament days and then a 3 to 4 mile run on Monday, to get my 22(or 23) miles in. I really wish my legs weren't still sore.
I also need to get my eating under control. I'm ravenous and have been since yesterday. Today the cafeteria had a special chef prepared meal of chicken and shrimp stir fry with mushroom, asparagus, and onions on rice. It was terrific! It also should have filled me up, but nope, still hungry. I'm going with the "keep eating healthy foods, a variety of them, drink lots of water, and wait at least an hour between eating again to make sure that you are truly hungry" mode. I'm still slightly under for the week, but if I go over then at least I'll believe that I needed to do it this week.
Welcome to the group, Aprilfoolbrid! I'm Donna.
Good luck with the unheavel in the schedule, Sherry. I know how difficult it is to stick to things when everything else is chaotic. Hope that your brother-in-law's visit goes well and that your son figures a way to entertain himself somewhat that doesn't cause you more stress or worry. Maybe the two of them can entertain each other and leave you with less work. We can only hope.
Good luck with the race coming up, Laura. You'll do great!! Rest and taper.
I looked up rucking, xcalygirl, and it looks like fun.
Great that you got the run and strength training in yesterday, maureli. Glad that you had a good run.
Looks like you're getting the exercise in too, Marla. The nia classes also look interesting.
Hope everyone has a great day!0 -
Welcome Aprilfoolbride!! I'm Sherry.
Today I ran to gym, awesome upper body strength workout, ran home. Brother in law made it okay and kids are excited to see him. Haven't gotten all my steps today, so might go for walk. Also, testing mfp forums on iPad, since I'm not taking my laptop to USA with me next week. So far so good, but beware of autocorrect nonsense in my future, as well as brevity since I hate not having a real keyboard. Later!0 -
Donna when was your last real rest day? Sounds like symptoms of over-training. When I get that fatigued my trainer makes me take a real rest day - not even going for a walk.
Sherry glad you were able to get a good workout in at the gym! Good luck with your BIL the next couple of days. I have a really tiny house and when I have people stay with me it seems like there's nowhere to get away.
Aprilfoolbrid, welcome!
Maureen it sounds like you had a great workout! Love when the weather clears up and you can get out after all.
Congrats on the 5K PR xcaly! I hit a new one last week that I might not see again for a very long time. Have gotten in two 3 mile runs since then that took a couple minutes longer than my 3.1 last week.
I realized I failed to post yesterday. Work was super busy and by last night I was so exhausted I didn't even remember to post. My session with my trainer wasn't until 7:00 yesterday so I drove home after work, changed clothes, then walked back to the gym (which is 2K away). Got in a light strength session with my trainer, then walked home again. It was after 8:00 before I got home and was 9:00 before I was eating dinner. Got up early this morning to get in a 3 mile run before work. Ordinarily I see my trainer on Thursdays but we're skipping my 3rd session this week because he doesn't want me doing any strength work 2 days before my half marathon. Rest day tomorrow, then my race is at 6:15 Saturday morning.0 -
Thanks for the warm welcome! It's great to see everyone's healthy activities...and real life challenges.
I'm happy to report that even though it's hot and I forgot my socks, I laced up and went for a walk this afternoon.0 -

Now that's dedication! Hope your feet held up okay. Hot day without socks...could end badly.0
