Get better at logging before asking for advice?

I want some help with adjusting my diet to fit my goals, but is it better to get more disciplined about logging and meeting macros (even if these aren't set properly for my goals) before asking for advice, or just come with my questions even if I have very little or inaccurate data for you to observe? I don't want to waste anyone's time. Basically I have been gaining muscle successfullly after losing weight initially, and now would like to trim fat while maintaining muscle, but feel like I'm not even sure if my diet goals are correct. Thanks in advance for your reply, it is very cool of the mods to help people out.

I'll just say generally, yes, your logging should be accurate and "heavy" compound exercises 3 times a week will help preserve muscle.

Hi! Tagging to respond more fully tomorrow (hopefully).

Quick question though - are you ok with tracking going forward or would you want to try without tracking?

Just generally speaking if you are stuck as far as progress goes then we are almost always going to look for tracking issues as that tends to be the case most of the time.

However if you're just looking for a starting point I would check our calorie and macronutrient intake thread, run your numbers, and post the results if you would like feedback. Or , post your current calorie and macronutrients goals along with stats, activity, and if you have it , short term results at that intake and we can give somewhat general direction if anything looks out of whack.

Definitely ok with tracking, I've been trying to do a good job the past few weeks since I would guess one of the first questions would be "what have you been eating?" Really just looking for a starting point now... been pretty happy with my gains in muscle, but have a lot harder time cutting down so I'm not sure if I have the right calorie goals/macro goals to do that and maintain muscle. I bumped the other thread where I asked my original question, thanks for the responses.
