Eating take-away food in Aus

Hi all,
I've been using MFP for 80 days now yay! My question is about what to eat when I go out for dinner. I've been out to dinner a few times since starting to watch what I eat, and have enjoyed trying different menu items that I would never have tried in get the past, in an aim to choose healthier (or less cal intensive) options. This is fun, and not a big deal anyway as it's only once in a while.
This week however I'm spending the entire week in the Melbourne CBD for work, eating takeaway every night, and it's getting exhausting researching everything lol.
What I've tried so far (we tend to stay in China town when traveling for work):
Thai - beef salad (can't remember the name)
Vietnamese - rice paper rolls, pork vermicelli bun (yum!), range of salads
Chinese - sautéed Chinese veggies, shanghai dumplings (ok, not low cal, but one of my favourites!)
So what do you like when you eat out, (partic Asian foods, but anywhere else too) and is it low or high in cals?

Two fast foods that I eat on occassion, both have their nutritional pages on their websites.
Grill'd - most of their burgers come in at 550cals - +/- 300g per serve
Nando's - 1/2 chicken is also about 550cals - +/-380g0 -
If you like Vietnamese, pho is a great option.
Generally Thai and Vietnamese are better options than the 'westernised' Chinese where lots of the foods are battered and fried. Anything that has a base of grilled meat and vegetables is generally a decent choice.
Just a word of warning though, most takeaway foods are loaded with sodium. This is not a problem for fat loss but will cause you to retain water which makes the scale go up. So when you get home don't be surprised if you are up a couple of kilos, it will flush out after a couple of days of normal eating  .0 -
Love dumplings! I would usually just guesstimate my asian and takeaway foods on mfp if not a chain. I try and find whatever sounds closest to what I had. sometimes just overestimate in case. And be aware any sauces, soy sauce etc add heaps of sodium. And up to your preferences, but I'd say try to avoid anything with batter, nuts and fried rice. I'd get plain rice and just have some of it. I do notice a lot of places are SO crazy generous with rice portions and I struggle with the temptation not to eat all of it lol.
Are you walking around lots? I was in the cbd lastnight and ended up doing about 8000 steps for my day just sitting on my bum at home, then going to the footy and dinner at a greek place near chinatown and back to the train station. I deliberately over estimated how much chips and a souvlaki would be, and my weight was still the same as yesterday this morning. So I would recommend you do some walking any time you've got the opportunity in the city if you can...walk instead of tramming it to places, go for a walk to explore, etc it adds up quick, and will help even things out a bit if your calorie estimates are a little off.0 -
Thanks for the suggestions all I had my last meal in the city tonight - last night we ended up at Korean BBQ (went out with a friend who has never been, so HAD to go lol). Love Korean BBQ, but after reading the average entries in the database, seems it's not so great calorie-wise. Which is fine for a special treat (for the record, I pigged out on the kimchi ban chan dishes and lettuce, and went light on the rice, with a decent serve of meat).
Tonight was Taiwanese, shared Xiou long bao dumplings (I know they're high!), but main dish was Taiwanese noodle soup which I think was relatively good, and was delicious (first time).
I'm working on my feet all day, but unfortunately not walking much (standing in one spot, kills the feet!). I have been walking from the hotel to the exhibition centre everyday, which is bringing my steps up to 10,000 (have a fitbit) so it's not all lost
Thanks for the warnings on the sodium, will be interesting to see what my Monday morning weigh in says! I've been very good with my breakfasts and lunches (premade quinoa salad for my lunches for the week), so hopefully the dinners don't blow it out too much.
Still interested in any other fav takeouts, for future reference0 -
I often order Chicken with chilli/garlic/basil and veggies when I get Thai food. Yum!0
