pool locker key: avoid digging into flesh

The pool locker keys have a safety pin attached. Where do you put them to avoid the key or pin end digging into flesh? I dislike the feel of either part pushing into my skin. Love to hear what you do. Thanks in advance.

I put the key on 10-ply cotton string about 4 inches long, tie the ends of the string (double knot) so it's like a keychain, and then tie it to my bathing suit strap with a slip knot.
I'm tempted to get a combination lock though. There have been a couple times I thought I lost the key when I looked down and didn't see it. It turned out that the key migrated to my back (probably because of my flip turns). The only reason I don't use a combination lock is because I'm afraid I'll forget the combination.
Do they make combination locks that let you set the combination? I'll have to google it.0 -
Yes, they make combo locks where you can set the combination, I got one at Home Depot. It's a 4 digit combination, you set it with a little key they give you with it & then you can put the key away somewhere. For my gym locker I use a regular, spin the dial left, right, left 3 # combo lock.......0

I use a combination lock. I've been to places where the lockers required a key with a safety pin. For that I just pin it to my mesh bag. I don't like swimming with it on me, and I've never been overly concerned with my stuff being stolen from the pool deck. Someone inadvertently taking a single piece of gear after a practice, yes, but not the bag.0

The pool lockers where I go require key with safety pin.
I did notice some people brought bags into pool area, so maybe that's what they are doing.
Maybe I could pin it to my flip flops I wear to the pool edge.0
