Have been running 5k since September 2013 starting with C25K. Would like to run in an 8k event in the beginning of October. Is this doable and if so have any of you got any training tips? Thanks, Abi

Yea, well doable, why not get a 5k to 10k programme and use that?

Very much so. If you can run 5k now, I am confident you could go out tomorrow and run 8k just by slowing down the pace quite a bit..

What are your objectives for the race? Just to do the distance without stopping? To be able to run it at the pace you currently do your 5k at? Depending on your objectives your training approach may differ. How many times a week do you like to run?

The 5k-to-10k plan suggestion is a good one. If you progress your training runs up to 10k then you will be very confident for your 8k racein training, then you can feel confident that can complete the 8k distance and your focus for your race can be on your pace.
