Hi All,

I am new to this group, but have been on MFP just over 2 years. I am keen to start strength training and basically want to know where to start......

Few bits of info on me

I am 34, 2 children (12 & 14), 5ft 3 inches, currently weigh a horrific 161lbs, I stopped smoking last August and have gained 28lbs since then :'(, my bf% is about 33-36% I try and get to the gym 3 - 5 times a week, plus I have started playing badminton once a week with a work collegue. I do varying things whilst at the gym, free weights, weight machines, cardio machines etc... so will happily have a go at any of it. I'd like to get back down into the 130's again and back into my UK size 8/10 jeans.

I have looked into NROLFW, Jamie Eason Livefit, Stronglifts 5x5 etc... but I just don't know what is best for me to start?? I am going on holiday 7 weeks on Friday and I know miracle can't happen that quickly but I'd like to of made a really good start with getting my body fit and strong again!

Food wise, I am currently working on cleaning up my eating and I do "try" and keep it as clean as possible but I will eat the naughty things too.

If any of you can advise me on what program to follow or anything that can help that will be great :) thanks in advance

Jen x

EDIT: Apologies if this has been asked already, I couldn't see anyting in the group already, but I may of missed

The truth is, you pretty much can't go wrong. Especially as a beginner. Everything will work when you are a beginner. Pick something that looks interesting and try it. SL, SS, ICF, Allpro, SC, NROLFW, Madcow, whatever.

I'm fond of SL 5x5, because it gave me my first real strength and muscle gains. I also find it gives great results for a low time investment. But, Dope is right. There are a lot of programs that will give you great results. Pick something and RUN it..

And just for clarification what you will notice about the above suggested programs are the following:

These are full body programs that train all major muscle groups 2-3 times per week.
These are centered around compound exercises and most of them around the squat, bench, ohp, and deadlift.
These programs have progression built into them such that over the course of time, you are adding weight to the bar.
