Hello all. I just ran my first week day 1. I was really psyched I did it. I take karate 1-2 days a week. I work 3 12 hr shifts. I am entering my first 5 K run in November. Should I commit to run on the karate days? If not it will be 4 days between runs. So only 2 per week. Any helpful suggestions? All tips appreciated:-) Mary Ann.

I would try to run either before or after work on the middle day. You would still get your rest days inbetween if all possible, and if doing it before work, it will more than likely increase your energy. Just my opinion. I'm newer to this myself

Hi, congrats on starting, it's exciting isn't it? I started couch 25K because of Karate too (Tang Soo Do). Nothing like a little motivation in the form of black belts chasing you around, right?? As far as running on karate days, kind of depends on how you're feeling, and when you run. I've run in the morning before work, and then done class at night, I've also run the morning after class, and both have been okay. I know, however, that Tuesday classes tend to be smaller, which means (for us) lots of drills/combos/kicks etc, and it's usually a killer workout, so I tend to not run the same day. Essentially, you'll have to try it and see. Nothing wrong with running twice a week, though, November is far enough away to give you ample time to take the program slowly. Have fun!

I agree ^^ Try it in the mornings if your Karate is in the evenings. I think after a good karate class, you may be tired or sore and not want to go out. 3 times a week is pretty ideal, but there is no rule either way. Try it out and see how it goes, only you will know in the end what works best for you :) Congrats on beginning, and best of luck reaching your goal!!
