Better skin with weight loss?

Hi, low carb friends! I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed better skin with their weight loss? I've noticed my skin is softer, clearer and has more of an even tone to it. Why is that? Anybody know? Hope everyone is doing well. n_n

I don't think that Low Carb in and of itself will result in better skin. But some Low Carb diets I'm sure can do that. For example, the Paleo approach diet purports to help with man autoimmune problems. But it may also be due to having a poor nutrient mix in your "normal" non-low-carb diet. Just like a poorly planned Low Carb diet can result in a large deficiency in some nutrients; other diets can as well. For "normal" diets (low-fat), they could easily be low in various essential nutrients.

Also, found this little tidbit on WebMD

"Although the few studies conducted on this topic have yielded mixed results, “theoretically, people with acne may have hyperinsulinemia and foods that are low in the glycemic index (GI) may contribute to the hormonal control of acne,” says Alan R. Shalita, MD, thedistinguished teaching professor and chairman of the department of dermatology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in New York."

    Worthy of some more digging....

I have noticed that I have far fewer blemishes when I am strictly following low carb. When I was not doing low carb for a few months and eating a lot of processed foods, I noticed the return of small red bumps on my cheeks and more random pimples.

I don't think it's low carb that improves my complexion though. I think it's eating whole foods and eliminating sugar. Do I have scientific data to back this up? Not at all. Just my own observations with my own body.
