I've been doing more and more reading about kefir and decided to try it. It wasn't too bad. I wasn't sure what to expect. I would like your thoughts on kefir and how do you drink yours? Do you mix it or straight up? The one I bought said you only need a tablespoon or so for the probiotic benefits but I know some of you drink a lot more. So I'd like to know your thoughts and ideas. Thanks in advance!!

Kefir water or kefir milk? I use the kefir milk in my smoothies, or mixed with berries for a morning meal. Never tried the water though. I think it's like Kombucha, maybe. That I just drink.

I make my own from the Yogourmet starter they sell here
    http://www.iherb.com/Yogourmet-Freeze-Dried-Kefir-Starter-1-oz/12071

I usually have about a cupful mixed with a whey protein powder and a little almond milk for my morning smoothie. The kefir is mostly thick in texture, so adding the almond milk makes it drinkable. Alone, it tastes a bit sour, which some days is fine; other days, I need something sweet with it.

Wait a sec, is Kefir paleo? I only ask because I LOVED it when I have had it before but since going paleo I have avoided dairy for the most part.

Your likely right but I don't have any dairy issues and am probably more primal - though I'm trying to keep my dairy in check. So I feel the benefits outweighs any diary issues. I plan on doing a whole 30 soon, so I will eliminate all dairy then. Here is an article I read if you would like http://chriskresser.com/kefir-the-not-quite-paleo-superfood.

I don't really like it as I have to use the unsweetened version (pre-diabetic) so I mix it with my smoothies and with almond milk. I usually only drink/use about 1/2 cup at a time but if I can use less for pro-biotic effects then I will use LESS! LOL! I only use it for pro-biotics, not because I like the taste.
