h. pylori

I got a call today, my EGD came back and I have h. pylori..Kinda sucks, but I was sorta expecting something to happen to make this take longer.

Did anyone else have this before their surgery? Did 1 set of antibiotics clear it up completely?

I read that some times it can take 2, or 3 different times on antibiotics to clear it up..

The woman who called me didn't give me much more information, just said she was calling me in a antibiotic..which ended up being 3 meds, metronidazole, clarithromycin, and omeprazole (thats not a big deal because I'm on that already, anyway).

I pretty much lived on antibiotics for years because of chronic cellulitous, which I havent had since december..I thought I was finally away from antibiotics..Ugh

I'm also allergic to many medications, so I always get extremely anxious when I start a new medication, particularly antibiotics..

I had H Pylori prior to my surgery and it was a pain to try and find the meds around here for some reason. I actually took my last dose on the day of my surgery whew!! But the one course was all it took and I have had zero side effects from the surgery. Mind you I am 22 months post op RNY.

I had H. Pylori at the start of my mandated classes for the surgery. I took the antibiotics and it cleared it up. My doc had me send in another sample about 2 weeks ago and I no longer showed the infection.

My tests showed H. Pylori too! I went through a course of antibiotics so I hope it's all cleared up. I imagine my next labs will show it's gone.

It's a bacteria that can cause stomach ulcers, hence most bariatric centers test for it as part of pre op testing. That is how mine was discovered. Bariatric patients don't need ulcers!!
