Hanks for another good thread starter.
I tried to go for a run today but it was no good. It was hot and I just felt big and heavy and sluggish. I cut it short, walked some, and headed to the gym . Unfortunately a van full of guys showed up at the same time, adding t the other team of guys who was already in there. Apparently see guys don't usually overlap times at the gym and nobody was happy about it (one guy even being downright rude). I only did a few upper body exercises and could see I was going to have a long wait for the cables, so I just left. I've got some shopping to do anyway.
I feel like I've lost some ability on this vacation, or something. Although my lungs and heart were fine on the run, y body felt so heavy. I've dropped my normal activity to a small fraction of what it was at home (as evidenced by my step counter) and am paying for it. I'll be happy to get back to my normal level of activity (even if that won't be til Sept). I hope I don't drop any more insofar as endurance, etc.
Have a great start of the week?,0 -
So this weekend I went off the rails a few times. Allow me to report that it does not feel good. The first treat I had felt special, like a treat. Then when I overate almost an entire pizza
I just felt gluttonous, uncomfortable and sad. I had so much sodium yesterday that trying to put on my wedding and engagement rings today was like trying to put them on a baked potato!
Starting over yet again...This morning I got up at 5 and went for a nice walk in my neighborhood. Then I went to Trader Joe’s on the way to work to pick up bread, more veggies, and frozen asparagus risotto, my new 5-minute backup dinner. And I set new goals for this week. I decided that I’m going to try to eat within my calories and throw out any other ideas about fruit, carbs, etc.
Here is my BIG daily goal:
1) Eat within cals +/- 150.
Here are minis to get me to that goal:
2) Have a cooked veggie PLUS salad and/or soup with dinner (I made veggie chickpea no-noodles quasi-minestrone in the crockpot yesterday and have some cauliflower soup in the freezer)
3) As soon as I walk in the door from work (Danger Will Robinson! Danger!), put out plate of veggies and hummus.
4) Log in dinner FIRST so I can work backwards from there.0 -
Sherry I think just being out of your element is going to impact things. You're out of your routine. What a drag about so many people being at the gym when you went - how frustrating to actually get there then not really be able to use anything.
April those are great goals! I'm with you on needing a fresh start today. I decided to log my weight every Monday no matter what it is, and for the second week in a row I've had to log a higher weight. ENOUGH.
I brought stuff into work for lunches and have dinner going in the crockpot so when I get home from the gym tonight it's all ready.0 -
Crockpot shout out!!!!0

Maureen- crazy jealous of all the running! My mileage has now shrunk back down to the 2 mile mark since my absence. Can't wait to be getting the long distances in.
Laura - It's always good to listen to our bodies. I've been very frustrated because my hand will not heal. So I know the frustration. I guess we just need to keep reminding ourselves of how important keeping our bodies healthy and strong is. It's not about mileage, it's about health. At least I keep telling myself that. By the way, if those power line guys thought your yard was a jungle they would probably be mortified by mine!
From Here on out - vacays are hard. Is it more humid where you're staying? As live in the desert now, and when I visit family back in the Midwest a I can't exercise. Mainly because I find the humidity more oppressive than the triple digit heat. Either way, don't lose hope! just try to remember that it isn't your normal routine...and that your life in general is right on track! a little fun won't kill you, just makes it a little tougher to get back into normalcy when you get home. Just do your best and forget the rest.
April - I know how you feel! Yesterday I binged on bread. Yep, bread. I had carefully removed all temptations and then ate bread. *sigh. But every day is a new chance to succeed!
As for me, my weekend had it's ups and downs.
Update on weekend goals:
- I did slowly start to get back in my routine. I've been slowly getting up earlier each day. We have two weeks until school starts and want to be accustomed to getting up early by then.
- I did actually track my calories. Of course I didn't manage to stay in my goal...but just actually tracking them was a big step.
- I missed a workout on Sunday, but I've gotten one in every other day! I even forgot to bring my shoes today (was wearing sandals) but just used the indoor bikes barefoot. Better than missing out entirely!
- My hand seems to be doing better. But the healing is very slow. Grrrr!
-Enjoyed my kiddos!
Goals for this week:
-Continue getting my routine back in shape!
- continue counting my calories...and actually staying in my daily limit!
- have a workout every day!
I have a wedding party tomorrow...so staying in the calorie limit will be difficult. but I'm planning on being careful and purposeful about every food choice I make there! *fingers crossed0
