Supplements

Looking for some advice on supplements. I'm in my second year of sprint triathlons and generally train 10-15 hours per week. Also, 30 year old female weigh 125lbs. I've never taken any type of supplement or even a multi-vitamin but I've recently done some reading and I'm thinking some type of supplement might improve my performance. I eat a well balanced diet and track my protein, carbs and fat but I've never paid attention to anything else. There is so much information out there and I don't want to start throwing money away for something that won't make any difference. So what does everybody else do? Is there a general supplement for endurance training or are they all a waste of money and a multivitamin is good enough? Looking for thoughts and opinions!

Supplements are used to supplement what you'd otherwise be short in. So you'd take a magnesium supplement if you needed more mg in your diet. Same with protein, fish oil, and just about everything else. So it's all very individual.
From everything I've read, the only thing that is widely accepted as beneficial to everyone is fish oil.
Now, the bigger issue... none of these things will help you get faster. Training will. Train smarter, more effectively and you'll get faster. It's that simple.
People will talk about carb loading and nutrient timing and all the rest, but that stuff is pretty overkill for most, especially at the sprint distance. Keep your diet balanced and eat sufficient calories based on your training and you should be fine.
If you're really looking to try something, caffeine is worth a shot.0 -
I agree with Jackson. Caffeine is great on a limited basis if you can help it. Caffeine will boost your performance if you haven't built up a tolerance. Otherwise a good training plan, carbs, rest, and recovery are you best "supplements".0
