Congenital Hypothyroidism

Hi all!

I know many of us here are finding are struggle with thyroid issues to be a new thing....there are some here who have battled it their entire lives! I was born without a thyroid...nothing there, so this has been an issue my entire life. When I was a sophomore in college it was impossible to regulate, and I didn't have health insurance at the time so going to the doctor was a battle in and of itself. I am 24 now and happy to say that I have been on 200mcg of Levothyroxine now for almost 2 years.

I apologize if there has been a similar board to this one...and I am interested in everyone's story! I am just wondering if there are people out there with the same scenario as me....born w/out a thyroid or with a non functioning one? Feel free to add me as I am ALWAYS looking for motivation, inspiration, and a positive pat on the back and I ensure you that I will do the same Much love!

My hypothyroidism occurred late in life so I can't give real "peer" support, but congrats on your condition being recognized and treated early, even if you hit a rough patch recently.

I am pleased for you that this was discovered when you were very young, presupposing it had to be. I have suspicions about my youngest granddaughter. It seems some places test at birth for many different health problems which can include thyroid, others do so only on a probable need only. This little girl had a really bad time from the start, she was ill with mothers milk, dairy formula and the common substitute soy, necessitating something else. Mum was able to modify her diet so that helped for months. She is almost two, under a consultant and dietitian, all I can do is stand back. I live out of their area so finding out what she would have been tested for is not possible, but with thyroid related issues on all sides one wonders.

I am pleased you, you come over as a very strong young woman who would be a good mentor to anyone in a similar position and an example to the rest of us. Long may you stay in control

Oh my goodness! I'm sorry to hear that about your granddaughter! I know that if it is not caught early it can be disastrous! The only reason they figured mine out so young was because my mom mentioned to the doctor that I barely moved in womb and I came out with realllly dry flaky skin! ICK !

I hope they get some testing for your granddaughter!
