Good Morning All!
I'm hoping to get a short run in today. Decided to go with Hal Higdon's Novice 2 plan and so will start week 7 this week, This means (to me) 3 miles tonight, 3 miles Tuesday w/trainer workout, 5 miles on Wednesday, rest day Thursday (may attend class wo running to and from), 9 miles on Friday, flyball tournament (my crosstraining) on Saturday and Sunday. We'll see if I manage it.
Good luck with the strength training jess1jane. How did last night go?
Hope the fire is contained (and out) soon, Marla.
Hope you are up and running with no foot pain, soon, Laura. Heal!
Sherry, hope you're doing well with your traveling.0 -
Day off unless I swim later, but smoke came back today and not sure if I want to be out in it.
Off doing errands in larger town.0 -
Good morning:) Or it may be afternoon in some places now. Thanks btsinmd! The strength training went terrible! It was abs day. I feel like I have no muscle at all, I was struggling the entire time, and in pain. Luckily, it didn't carry over into today and I will give it a fresh go later. I think I have arms or legs scheduled for today. That should be fun... No, not really.
But it's Monday! Another chance to have a good week! I even dreamed about saying no sugary sweets last night. No joke. Even in my dreams my self-control is improving.0 -
Great thread starter!
Sorry I was absent this weekend. Managed to have a particularly lazy, low-activity weekend and it did not feel good. Suffice it to say that I did not meet any of my goals this weekend.
I’ve been noticing a pattern that I tend to go off the rails on the weekends. Ugh! Need to plan better and include treats sometimes so I don’t go nuts.
ANYWAY, here I am on the healthy path. Yesterday I slow-cooked broccoli soup so that I can eat it with dinners this week. It turned out really great! I also froze some of last week’s veggie soup so I can mix it up a bit. Having soup +/or salad with dinners really helps improve satiety.0 -
Awesome thread starter today.
I have a trainer workout tonight. Curious to see what he says about my running. I'm starting to feel lazy about doing it so hopefully I can start again before I totally lose my mojo.0 -
Ha, so I posted this on yesterday's thread and then realized I was a day behind. Oops! I'm posting it again here because I wasn't sure anyone would see it on the other thread.

Laura - Bummer about the pool! Our pool has lap swim lanes set up, but the life guards are pretty good at telling the kids to stop when they are messing with the lanes. I've never had the problems you've mentioned! I gotta be honest, I'm not a fan of parenting other people's kids, but I would probably have made an exception there and had a polite but firm discussion with the kids jumping into and treading in my lane. (the 2 year old can't help it).
. Glad I don't have to deal with that since swimming is my favorite thing!
Donna - I know how you feel! Between the long travels by car I had and the womenly issues and my injured hand my whole routine is completely out of whack! So I'm in the same boat, just basically trying to keep afloat without losing it. I'm actually looking forward to school starting so I can get back into an better routine.
Are you able to get back into a routine now that the traveling is done? I always aimed to just finish during times of illness or stress. You can only do the best you can do with the circumstances you've been given. No use stressing over the rest. Still 6 weeks, which isn't a ton of time, but it's better then next week.
You still were able to make it 8 miles...even if you didn't run it all. That's almost 3/4 of the distance. You should be fine if you just slowly push yourself (without overdoing it and causing injury). If all else fails, walk parts of it, where a funny t-shirt and just encourage those around you. Be their cheerleader!
Jess - yep, pretty much everything I've read stresses the need for strength training. even endurance athletes put in plenty of strength training to give them the force to push hard. Muscle is the best way to burn fat.
Marla - Glad to hear there are some positive things, even with the fires!
It is a very stressful week for me. I was trying to do everything and it was stressing me out. Our church is getting a new logo and new Sunday school curriculum, promoting kids this week to the next grade classrooms, etc. We're also painting the preschool hallway this week from bland to something more warm and inviting. It's all very exciting, but since I'm the preschool coordinator it is also very stressful. So I finally had to decide that getting enough sleep, eating well, and actually spending some time with my family (especially my oldest who will be going to first grade, and full day school for the first time) was the most important. So my workouts have been nonexistent this week. But as a result I haven't been stress eating. I'm a terrible emotional eater and with all this pressure I was sure I would crack. But I've been getting enough sleep, eating well, and no migraines today! So I think I made the right choice. Everything will be done by the end of this week and then I can get back into a routine again. Just gotta survive until then! Have a great week everyone!0
