Question about agave nectar

Is agave nectar allowed on the paleo eating plan? I love herbal tea and would like to add agave nectar if possible. Any thoughts about this?

Some say yes, some say no. This is just one example of many- if you Google agave nectar and if it's Paleo, you'll find many opinions about it. In the end, you should make the decision, what would be good for yourself , your health.
I only use any kind of sweetener(honey, agave, stevia) minimally.

Agave nectar is highly processed and one of the worst natural sweeteners unfortunately. If you look there's quite a bit of information on Paleo sites about it and about how it was marketed skillfully as a "health" food when it's anything but.

No added sweetener is a terrific idea on a daily basis. Depending on your health goals (do you have any illnesses, fat to lose?) it would be best to kick the need for added sweet. However, if you must add something sweet to your beverages, local raw honey is about the best option. There are actual health benefits to raw honey.

PS. Now I'm confused. in another post you are saying that you are telling people that you "don't eat carbs". Agave nectar is all sugar (carbs) and if you are limiting carbs, added sweeteners don't belong. In that case you want carbs to come from vegetables primarily.
  • I have not eaten any sweeteners at all on this plan so far. I am wondering if agave nectar was acceptable or not. It looks like no sweeteners at all since I have a lot of fat to lose. Thank you for the information!
