OK I am new to Running, well, I ran back in HS which was many years and lbs ago. I signed up with a beginning c25k running group here locally in Mo. I am look for tips esp with my breathing. I am use to walking 3-4 miles 3 times a week but I notice when i am running i get short of breath easily. Any words of wisdom for a beginner? Doesn't have to be just related to breathing....

    Welcome to running!

The first few weeks get all your body systems into sync. Your cardiovascular system may be ahead of your lungs, which may be ahead of your muscles, which are probably ahead of your tendons, etc. In the first few weeks, all of the systems reach the same level of fitness.

To start, slow down. You'll probably say that you're already slow but slow down.....then slow down a bit more. You'll be surprised how much easier your breathing will be and your speed will pick up over time.

Make sure you have a good pair of shoes. They make all the difference for a run. If you can, go to a running store with an old pair of shoes or sneakers and have your feet fit by them. If you can't, buy a good pair of shoes that are a half size larger than your regular shoes and lots of room in the toe box.

Let us know how it goes. A group training sounds like fun.
