I had what appears to be a gallbladder attack on Monday that sent me to the ER. I follow up with my surgeon on Tuesday. The problem is I am so stressed out and still half sick that I basically haven't eaten anything since Monday. When I try I start to feel like I am going to get sick. This is not good. Any ideas on foods I should try that might go down better? My typical diet is not working.

I'm not sure what your typical diet is, but what if you tried going back to the liquid phase for a bit? At least it would allow you get some protein in, which is probably the most important thing you could be eating.0

This is probably not the reply you want to read, but call your doctors office and talk to the nutritionist. They may prescribe an anti-Nausea drug or have suggestions that will keep you on a track they can follow.
I hope you feel better soon.0 -
Oh boy! Been there, done that. Usually my gall bladder attacks were triggered by a stuck stone and food. They ended when I threw up. The final one didn't end with throwing up and I couldn't keep anything down at all for days, wound up in the hospital and having the gall bladder removed. The liquid diet is advise is a good one as is talking to your NUT. And talk to your doctor about if you need it removed. Sooner rather than later if you do.0

I would focus on protein shakes for right now, specifically the type that can be made with water not milk. I would also put unflavored protein powder in pudding or baby food. Not getting in your protein will simply make it worse your body needs protein to heal.0

Both my husband and I have had our gal bladders removed. Super easy surgery, super easy recovery. When I was 8 weeks pregnant with my 2nd son I developed a VERY large gal stone. Fortunately my gal bladder was anatomically atypical so the stone trapped in the top of the gal bladder and didn't ever block the bile duct. So, I was given the option to have surgery prior to 25 weeks of pregnancy (complete with general anesthetic and pain killers) or try to wait it out and have surgery after I delivered. I opted to wait it out. So pretty much 7 months of that pregnancy I vomited every day. I had a friend that was a registered dietician and she did some research for me and helped me change my diet for the remainder of the pregnancy to reduce the gal bladder attacks. (this was all pre RNY). I pretty much stripped fat out of my diet. The gal bladder gets involved in digestion particularly in digesting fatty foods. I also found that spices tended to trigger gal attacks for me. So I ended up on a fairly bland lean protein, veggies and fruit diet for the balance of the pregnancy. I delivered via C-section and then had gal bladder removal surgery 10 weeks later. The gal bladder surgery was laparoscopic day surgery. I was in the hospital from 7am-2pm. Then went home. I took no pain killers after I left the hospital. I was nursing my newborn when they put my IV in and then 24 hours after surgery I was nursing again (with Dr. approval). The morning after gal bladder surgery I took my newborn and 2 year old to a model train show with my husband. That might have been overdoing it a bit, I was really tired. I had surgery on a Friday morning and my husband went back to work on Monday and I was fine alone at home with the kids.
My husband was about 2 months RNY post op and spent a Tuesday night in pain and vomiting, with nothing in his stomach. Wednesday morning he described his symptoms to me and I said it sounded like a gal bladder attack. He called the RNY surgeon and they got him in that afternoon. He was jaundiced when he arrived at the surgeon's office and after examining him they sent him next door to the hospital for blood work and an ultrasound. By the time he had walked back to the surgeon's office they were working on scheduling surgery for the next day. His bile duct was blocked with stones & he was jaundiced. At 1pm on Thursday he was in Laparoscopic gal bladder removal surgery. The plan was for day surgery and he'd go back to work the next day. However, post op he was still jaundiced enough that the surgeon wanted to keep him in the hospital overnight for observation to ensure the jaundice corrected itself. So, I called his boss and let him know that my husband would have to take the next day off and why. The next day the jaundice had cleared up by mid day and my husband was released from the hospital. That was a Friday and he was back to work on Monday and felt fine.
I'd stay away from as much fat as possible in foods and stay away from spicy food. I'd see your surgeon asap. If you end up needing surgery, it's hands down the easiest surgery I've ever had.0
