GPS screens

I've been thinking about this of and on for the last month or so, and someone in my FL just posted this question in the long distance runners forum, so i took it as a sign that i should repost it here...

For those with a configurable-field GPS, what do you display? If you don't have that option, what would you want to display? In particular, if you had four fields. Would your racing configuration differ from training?

I have my Garmin 610 setup as follows -

1st screen: lap time, lap distance.... primary screen when racing

2nd screen: current hr, % of max hr..... used mostly for HR training sessions

3rd screen: current speed/pace, average lap speed/pace.... speed when cycling, pace when running, used to gauge if I'm on target for goal times/PRs.

For running I have lap pace, average pace, cadence and distance. For bike I have cadence, speed, HR and distance. I have a 310XT.

Cycling: Time, Speed, Distance, HR, 3 sec power, RPM

    Run: Time, Distance, Pace, HR

I don't use second screens. I'm a glance and go type of guy. I love my data, but I'm not going to flip through multiple screens on the go.

I'm "new" to screens and tracking and my GPS in general. I *still* haven't set up a Garmin account and downloaded all the info on my watch to my computer. Which I need to do b/c it's taking forever to get to satellites now (need to do the "update", I guess).

So, take my info for what it's worth.

For running, I have elapsed (total) time, lap pace and HR.

For cycling, all I want on it is my HR. My cycle computer has distance and speed info and it's easier to read.

I also only use one screen per workout. I don't want to flip back and forth. No, wait. Sometimes I flip to screen two on the run, but just to see total distance.

I can't put four fields on a screen b/c I need to be able to read it while I'm moving. I don't wear my glasses during workouts. Probably, with time, I'll add more data fields to the additional screens, but just mostly look them over when I get home. I do check out calorie burn, avg and max HR, etc when I get home. I use my Garmin for calorie burn b/c MFP overestimates for me, I think. At least I use the "lifetime athlete" setting for calorie burn and it runs about 2/3 MFP calculations. I also sometimes check my max speed on the bike when I get home. Usually I do that when I notice my bike computer tells me that I went really fast, like 93.6 mph. The Garmin will say more like 42 or 48. On my bike, I probably went 93.6 for two tire revolutions or something.
