Goggle Anxiety

 I know this sounds silly, but goggles make me nervous. I am usually okay with them in a lake or pool, but in the ocean, I just. can't. do it. I have done two ocean swims now, and each time I had to pop my goggles on top of my head and swim with my head out of the water.
I am wondering if anyone else has had this experience, or if anyone has a really solid goggle recommendation. I was thinking that maybe something slightly larger, without tint...? Super ultra anti fog?

Never had any issues like yours. I'd try different goggles or maybe just easing into it a bit more.
I have a big of a goggle ritual that I go through for open water swimming but it's more of making sure I keep sand out and get a good seel.0 -
I've seen a few people wearing a mask rather than goggles. Maybe you could try that?
What is it about goggles in the ocean vs in a lake that bothers you?0 -
I just got a pair of goggles from Aquasphere called Lady Kayennes. They are more goggle-like. I got them mainly because the other goggles I had were pressing too much on my eye socket on my long swims making me get headheaches. These fit more around your eyes and give a lot of really good peripheral vision. They are about $27 so not too expensive. I didn't have the problem you're having in the ocean but perhaps it has to do with the lack of peripheral vision you have in goggles with the waves? I know that the waves in the ocean threw me off some where it doesn't in a lake or river. Maybe worth a try in order to keep your head down some?0

That's funny, because that's what I ended up doing, exactly. I concluded that it could be (a) peripheral vision or (b) tint, so after a lot of research, I ordered a pair of clear Kayennes. I've been wearing TYR Nest Pros, so I'm not sure how much better the Kayennes will be, but we'll see! I will still need to use my tinted goggles in some scenarios but at least this might be an option that is a step up from nada.
Thanks for your input everyone.0
