I'm new to MFP, so forgive me. I just stumbled upon this discussion, and in case you haven't seen it you may want to take some time to check this out. To me, this looks like sage advice. Happy reading!

I haven't had time to read that posting completely (or all the links inside the posting), but I saw something that looks pretty important. Is anyone here trying to be on a 1,200 calorie diet? If so, please read that posting completely, as you may want to rethink your strategy. It looks to me that trying to only take in 1,200 calories is not a good thing to do. I'm sure most of you people have seen the Biggest Loser, and they're always preaching to the contestants to make sure that they hit their daily numbers of both calories taken in and calories burned. I could be wrong, but I believe the Biggest Loser's diet guidelines are 70% of your BMR. For the record, I am not on the 1,200 calorie plan.

Oooo interesting! No I havent read all the links... im not on the 1200 calorie diet. Nor am I a huge fan of it. I believe in lifestyle changes not diets, because I feel diets led u to believe its only for a short while but health is forever. That being said, I was previously unintentionally eating less than 1200. Now however im doing my best to eat more. :)
  • Thank you Strikes for sharing this, I read a good portion of it. I agree with you and Evie, that eating a 1,200 calorie diet is not good for you. There are days that I do however; not intentionally, but there are days when I am just not hungry and I do not feel like eating. I feel that eventually I should be eating those calories, but I think that will come in time, when I am more healthy, and just like lately I do not even need as much food to fill full because I am shrinking my belly. I used to love the Biggest Loser, but I do have some caution to that. They lose so much weight so fast that sometimes it can do more damage then if they took longer to loose it. Making sure your goals are achievable is also very important. Because when you hit those goals you will get that boost of confidence. Thank you so much for sharing.

    Keep up the good work
