Interesting Experience Today

Hi Everyone-

Not sure if my body had a reaction to wheat/ processed flour or what but here's what happened today:

I was totally craving a turkey sandwich when I was at the grocery store. I haven't had bread in at least two months so I was scanning the bread section for anything that might look passable. I found this brand called Joseph's Flax Oat Bran & Wheat Pita Bread. It had pretty decent stats as far as ingredients for bread goes. They are thin, 50 calories and the carbs wasn't as bad as most. I get home, use 1 piece of pita and make a kick butt sammich. I checked my blood an hour later and it was 118 so I made am mental note of this could be something I eat once in a blue moon.

About an hour after that I began to get this strange feeling in my upper chest like I had dough caught in my esophagus. No pains or anything heart related, just that feeling when you eat peanut butter off a spoon and swallow it. It eventually went away but it got me to wondering if my body reacted to the wheat. That's the only thing different I had in my meal.

Anywho- does your body change after not eating wheat for a long period of time or am I just losing it? :)

I've never had that reaction, but I love that Joseph's flax bread. I make breakfast sandwiches with it, use it for meat rollups, pretty much in place of bread. I can have a square of it with minimal effect on my BG.

If I eat too much of it I do experience one side effect due to the flax seeds; lets just say it makes me more than "regular". But one square every other day works well for me. Good stuff.

I have noticed that those types of breads that are very flat can get a sticky when wet and therefore can cause a piece to stick in your throat or esophagus if it wasn't chewed up small enough so I would suspect that you answered your own question when you mentioned that it felt like dough caught in your esophagus.

I had a turkey sandwich today minus the bread (turkey with lettuce and tomato rolled up) and didn't have any issues. I think it was definitely the bread as that was the only difference. Good thing is now I know. :)

I'm going to have to try this. :drinker:

I'm going to check Whole Foods this weekend. Thanks for the idea
