Starting C25K Today

Hey all! I just joined MFP after browsing through the forums for months. I am also starting the C25K program today. I have started it a few times in the past, but have always quit. I'm sticking to my guns this time though and arming myself with my new motto, No Excuses. My mother started the program in August 2012 and has since lost over 50 pounds. I want to follow suit and I was just wondering if anyone had some tips about getting through the program and/or if anyone had some success stories to share?

Welcome! We're always glad to add a new runner to our "team".
Don't quit. Slow down, then slow some more. That's the key.0 -
I don't have a full success story yet. I just finished week 4, day 3 today, but I sometimes repeat days. I plan to start w5 on Sunday.
I could barely run the 30 seconds at first, and now they have me @ 5 minutes. It sucks, and it's so physically hard, but I CAN DO THIS!
So I guess just an increase in my capability is my success story for now0 -
That IS a success story, happyfeet! Awesome progress! You're really doing great!0

Wow, that's a LOT further in the program that I've ever gotten. I think the furthest I got was Week 3 before I got bursitis in my knee and gave up. Congrats, that's really awesome!!I don't have a full success story yet. I just finished week 4, day 3 today, but I sometimes repeat days. I plan to start w5 on Sunday.

High five!! You did great.
There's a couple of mentally challenging days coming up. You're ready for it. Believe in yourself and RUN SLOW. You just need to do it; you don't need to do it fast.
You are awesome! Way to go and well, well done!Oh, and I bought 2 pairs of pants yesterday at the thrift shop..$5 a pair and a whole size smaller and they're LOOSE
You've had a great day! This is wonderful; it's such a great feeling and you deserve every minute of it. All your hard work and dedication is showing.
.....now the drums truly are rolling0 -
....omg..week 5day 3. No freaking way!! 20?! Minutes?!
I did day 2 again and struggled through the 8 minutes. I am undecided if I should do the 20 minutes (and not complete it) or keep doing the 8 until it's more comfortable. What did everyone else try? What worked for you?0 -
You're ready. C25K is messing with your mind. That's what it intends to do. 20 minutes is freaking you out but you're ready. You can do this. Believe me. I've been there.
The 20 minutes is a mental challenge. Prepare yourself mentally. Slow down your pace. Get some good music that you can lose yourself in. Get an audio book that you can concentrate on. Use that concentration for either music or book. Just do not think about your legs and what they are doing. If on a treadmill, cover the display panel. Do not check the time.
You can do this. And it's an amazing feeling of accomplishment when you do.0
