Mine is .5 a kg or a pound roughly. Im just wondering if this is a good realistic goal or if I should make it less to keep my weight loss at a healthy rate. Any ideas? Also, did u know u should eat back ur exercise calories, cause mfp has already calculated a calorie deficit for ur current calories before exercise? I didn't know that! So I wasnt. Think that might be why I didnt lose this week. I wasnt eating enough! Whoops!

Evie, I think you have a very good, realistic goal and you're making great progress! It might be tempting to jack your weight loss rate to 1kb/week but I that's not realistic given the condition of your bum shoulder. Due to your bum shoulder you really can't do much strength training (but you could work legs by doing squats and lunges 1 or 2 times/week), and getting your cardio completed takes real dedication on your part. I know it must be painful to try to simply walk, go up/down stairs, or even take a shower. It's NO fun having a bad shoulder and I hope you start to feel better soon. I know your doctor visit is coming up - when is it again???

My goal is to lose 2 pounds/week but as dedicated as I've became to start "training" instead of "exercising", there's a likelihood that I might exceed my 2 pound goal every now and then. I'm sick and tired of being embarrassed about my body and my poor fitness level. I'm determined to train hard - but smart by using extreme caution and not ramp up mileage/speed/duration too quickly. I now consider myself in training for an Ironman triathlon (although I have 2019 as a reasonable goal), and this was a major step forward for me. I'm not worried about exceeding the magic 2 pound/week goal that everyone swears by. Now I'm not going to start putting up Biggest Loser numbers, but I'm also not going to get discouraged if I have some weeks along the way where I don't lose any weight. My journey to my goal weight should realistically take 12-18 months.

Yes, I'm aware that you're supposed to eat back your exercise calories. Eating back your calories helps you keep a healthy rate of weight loss. Also, it seems that I've read that if you don't give your body enough calories it might switch into overdrive and think that you're starving - and slow down your metabolism. I've been eating back some of my calories, but not all of them. However, I don't feel that I'm starving myself. I believe that since I've been measuring my food (I've struggled all my life with portion control) my stomach size has probably shrank because I seem to feel full sooner than I was in the past.

Evie, you're making tremendous progress and if you can ever get your shoulder healed I have a feeling that you'll change your goal to a 2 pound loss/week and you'll start taking the weight off even faster (you don' t HAVE to change your goal, that's just my feeling)! I have a lot of faith in you and I really admire your dedication to getting in your calorie burn because I know that bad shoulder must really be hampering what you do, how you do it, and how long you do it. I also like how you're thinking outside the box. Your jump rope purchase was genius, I would have never thought of that! Now you have another way to burn calories without having to move your shoulder very much - great job!

Does anyone else care to share their weekly goals and how they plan on achieving them?

    Hey m!
Lol I think u miss read my msg, I was wondering if I need to make it smaller lose weekly not a bigger one! Lol. For the exact reasons u described, my shoulder and not being able to put too much stress on it. I think ull be proud of me, ive been doing squats and lunges! Including in my crunches and leg lifts :) my shoulder surgeon visit is on my thrus, ur wednesday early, about 9 or 10am? Its in my diary but ill check it before its the day! Lol. Im actually looking forward to it. Hoping desperately for some exercising advice, not so much answers. Trying to not get hopes up in that way, the answer way.

Omg skipping is so intense! Its good for the shoulder too in the fact that it doesnt move too much. Im just about to go do some now. Just as a heads up, it really works u out! I get puffed easily! So I break it into sections and do lunges or squats ot whatever inbetween. Its good! I can really feel it in my legs lol. Hoping to work up to 5 mins a section in maybe 3 weeks? I think thats a realistic goal. :)

Yep ive been there, in starvation mode. Its not fun. Ur so restricted and trying so hard and dont know why it isnt comjng off. (The weight)

Thanks heaps for carjng m! Really means alot. But yeah I was meaning less of a goal. Lol.... nah I think im happy for the 1pound, half a kg goal. Seems to be workinh for me. I might actually I will slow it down when ive lost a bit more. I wanna do this slowly, that probably sounds stupid, but I wanna make slow steady changes to my lifestyle that I will keep up. :)

I agree, half a kg or 1 lb a is a healthy goal..... I have been at this today for 6 month....My health problems are things like the lovely Cholesterol, water retention in my legs and arms, my thyroid is swinging from normal to really lazy etc..... I do not have anything wrong with my bone, joints etc and I have managed to loose 63 lbs, but I have set my goal for 1 lb and healthier per week. It is better to do so. The only reason I have lost so much extra is my exercise level. My logic is if I feel like doing more one day I do it. So if I loose more great. But as long as I make my goal of 1 lb am okay and with us obese people it is not too discouraging. Since the last thing I would want to do is get frustrated and quit!!!!!
Be prepared for a stand still after you loose some weight...... I think, they call it a plateau. I hate those!!!! With my tendency to retain water I actually went backwards when the docs started messing with my medications since I was loosing more potassium than I was retaining and my potassium level was so low that they made me give blood every couple of days and I "gained" 10lbs in 3 days because the new pills were not getting rid of the water like the old one......
I have also learned to watch not only my calories, but also my fat intake. I have also found it helps me and the weight loss to get enough fiber and protein. Also keep in mind that 1 lb of muscle weighs the same as 1 lb of fat, but it needs less space. So if you are just starting to exercise you will loose fat, but also gain muscle. You will loose inches/cm, but the scale will not show that......
Most of all do not over do your shoulder!!! My hubby has found that with his weight loss he is in less pain from his back, neck and shoulders.....
