I filled in the macros in the Keto Calculator and adhered (80:20) to them for a month (July 18-August 18). I did not find it difficult to restrict carbohydrate consumption but sometimes failed in meeting fat requirements as well as protein. I was pretty aggressive in reducing calories by 40% and a 70/20/10 macro. I ate two meals a day maintaining a fast from 8 PM-Noon most days. I frequently added coconut oil or sardines packed in olive oil between meals between meals. I had planned on an intermediate exercise routine for the month by walking 3-4 days a week but had to abandon that plan because of a quad tendon problem in the first week. I did not change the calculator to a less active calorie BMR.

Yesterday I weighed myself for the first time since stating the diet. I am a 6'3", 61 year old male and my initial weight was 231 and after a month my weight was 219, for a loss of 12 pounds in a month. The forecast was within a pound. Pretty impressive!

Congrats on the great loss. I have not looked at the forecast. I have my own weight loss goals that I set for myself, but I try to be flexible else I will be disappointed if I miss a goal. 12 lbs is one month is great. My goal is to lose 8-10 lbs in a month.

I used the one below with the forecast weight-date graph on the bottom.

    keto-calculator.ankerl.com/

I appreciate the kind words about the weight loss. I have done this many low carb and keto before and I know it works. I never used a forecasting tool before. I am amazed how accurate it is for me to date.

I did not check the forecast in a month because I wanted to try and follow the macros for the most part. I felt if I looked at the forecast weight-date frequently I might be tempted to change calorie consumption to keep up weight loss.

I used the calculator and configured a 50% deficit - it warned me that it was "extremely hard" to maintain, but that's not how I feel at all. IMO this should only happen if you're somehow failing to reach nutritional ketosis.

Of course it predicts rapid fat loss with this deficit (1500 kcal/day), so I should not have to wait long to see if the calculation holds. In fact it says that a month from now I'll have to reduce the deficit to prevent muscle loss - and I'll happily do so, since then by prediction I will have gone from 27% to 20% body fat. :-)

I got the same warning with a 40% calorie deficit and the same protein warning and don't find it hard to follow. I plan to limit my protein consumption to 80-90 grams.

If you think of it please share your experience in a month.

Has anyone else noticed a wacky BMI estimate on that calculator? I am about 31.5% via caliper and it tells me that I am 44%? I think that this is confusing for people who are new to keto (I am not).

Are you reading the info correctly? You add your estimated body fat in a %. The forecaster graph has body fat in POUNDS in the top right hand corner which varies with time. The right hand box has milestone body fat in %. Those are higher than your initial entry of 31.5%?
