  • Hiya (My aim over the coming months is to get more active in here :)

This is where I got wet today - didn't swim though, I did some aquacise. (Not my photo).

    My oh my!
And what palace is that you got wet in?
    Woah!
  • Just my gyms pool, must admit it is a nice place to get wet. Usually the lights are dimmed too. The downside is it's only 14m.

Hopefully I'll be able to restart the swims Wednesday or Thursday, so though I was here today, I didn't swim.

The scene of today's crime of swimming with a smartphone in the pocket of one's temporary swim shorts!

Venue for the race series I take part in, which also happens to be my primary training location. Swam with dolphins here last week.

One of the two pools I swim in often. Yes, there are seals in there when I swim and sometimes turtles too. I swim to clean the pool, but hoping to get to do some more water work with the seals soon as well. The other pool I swim in is also full of seals and turtles...

AQ, where ARE you?? Wow! No wonder you go a little crazy when you can't get in the water! I love the beach with the palm trees... Hmmm... I'm picturing my crazy loud pool with 8 kids per lane in the four lanes next to me. When they start butterfly drills, I usually realize how long it will take me to get ready for an open water swim!!

LOL. Nairobi, Kenya, so usually nowhere near the ocean.
But was at the coastal city of Mombasa during Christmas. It's our "summer" here. Really hot!
But tomorrow hopefully resume my 5:30 am swims in a cold pool, in the dark with not a palm tree in sight!

Today at the end of my swim, I was joined on the pool deck by one of these:

They really are huge - that bird must have been close to my shoulder height - and I'm just half an inch shorter than 6 feet!
Unfortunately I didn't have a camera to take a picture of the actual one!

The Lake on Thursday morning. It's pretty, even if it is far too early in the morning.

How do they get the water to stay up there on the roof like that?

That is amazing - 2 lanes and one is free on Sunday afternoon. Great having that availability!

My pool is definitely nothing special to look at, it has a broken grab bar in the deep end that has currently been replaced with a lane marker! But the reason I like it so much is the water temperature is always kept spot on & its absolutely perfect

Was in a different city on Saturday, and unusually managed to get in morning and evening brief swims here (the water was murky though):

This is where I went to the USMS stroke clinic on Sunday. It is the YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando, Florida which is about an hour from my house. Directly behind me in that picture is a diving pool. The facility has a retractable roof which was closed the day I was there.

There is a bit of an interesting history with this place. It is right on International Drive, which is in the heart of the Central Florida tourist district, near all of the famous theme parks like Disney World and Universal Studios, etc. It is tucked in between a bunch of hotels. It was originally opened as the Justus Aquatic Center in the mid 1980's and was meant to draw in swimmers and swim events from all over the world. It ran into financial problems not long after opening and there was a push to close it and build more parking. A bunch of very wealthy individuals got involved to save it and it was ultimately donated to the YMCA and has been open that way for about 20 years. There are quite a few big events held there each year and it is also the regular pool for some (lucky) local groups.

A typical scene as the youth swim club wraps up their practice before evening lap swim.
