Donna, when I am super hungry I try to eat lots of produce and protein. Then more produce.

    Marla, glad all are well!

This threadstarter = why I workout and meal plan first thing

So even though I did some emotional eating last night, I realized this am—thanks to Laura—that it was short and then it was OVER. It was about 400 cals and I was able to stop pretty quickly. In the past, I’d go out for junk food or fast food (or, sadly, both) and then keep going for meals and days and even longer. Back on the wagon (as it were) today.

This morning went for a nice early walk. I have a wake-up buddy that I call after I get up at 5:45 and it’s making a difference. Got more than half my steps in before I sat down at my desk at work this morning. And I downloaded two audiobooks from the library on my phone so I can listen while I stroll (sometimes I get bored). Plus have meals and snacks planned within goal.

I also have a hard time exercising on weekends so I checked out the rec guide and am considering taking one of these three classes:
1- Dance class Saturdays at 9 that is walking distance from my house
2- Pilates class Saturdays at 8:30 that is a 7 minute drive from my house
3- Pilates class Saturdays at 10 that is a 20 minute drive from my house

I’m interested in the Pilates because it’s a lot harder for me to do strength work than cardio. But the dance class is so very convenient. Give me your two cents!

April- I too had some struggles with emotional eating...mainly stress. My van tire went flat and we had to fix that. Then the fridge started to die a slow death (still working on fixing that). It's made eating well much more difficult, but I only ate a couple of extra cookies so overall I'm still proud of myself. as for your class choices, personally I would pick Pilates. Like you, I get plenty of cardio during the week and struggle to get strength training in.Pilafes is a very fun way to get strength training in!

Hopefully we will get the fridge fixed today! I took my rest day today because I needed the sleep, back to it tomorrow.

    Have a great day!

I love Pilates. It's good for both strength and flexibility. When I first started it I honestly didn't particularly like it because I thought it was just hard, but I kept doing it because I knew it was good for me. Eventually I grew to love it. We do Pilates every other Tuesday (an instructor comes into my office after work) and I'm sad that tonight is a non-Pilates week.

I got up early to swim this morning but the maintenance guy who is supposed to unlock the building never showed up. I stood out on the sidewalk with the lifeguard & several other swimmers for 10-15 minutes then went home and slept for another half hour. I was up from 2:30 until close to 4:30 this morning, then my alarm went off at 5:00, so the extra sleep was okay anyway. There's a pool in the city where I work where I can get a day pass for $6 so I'll probably go there and swim after work. Original plan was to swim before work & bike after work so I'm a little disappointed. Don't think it will be light late enough to do both tonight, and I probably won't get a chance to get on my bike again until the weekend.

Valma I hope you can get your fridge fixed!

Well I love my Nia dance class, in fact went this morning. It combines so many different types of things and strengthens the muscles as well as being aerobic. Of course that also depends on the teacher, I have gone to some that were so so in different cities.

I am lucky that my teacher is a black belt, they do belts like karate. So she is top teacher and is so full of energy she keeps us hopping!

Most people who teach it are only white belt the beginning one, which is ok, but after the best.....

I do the closing shift at work today and hoping to swim after.

I would do the early Pilates class if there was a likely chance that you could get to it on time. Get there and get it over and you'll have the rest of the day free and it'll make a good start to the day. The dance class has the benefit that you could walk or run to it and it's just that slightly later, but not too late. So I'd put the dance class as the second choice and the later and farther Pilates as the third.

Valma, hope the fridge gets fixed as soon as possible!

Sorry about the no swim this morning, Laura. Good luck with whatever you plan to do tonight.

Tonight for me is run to trainer workout, do workout, then run back. I'm still struggling with being hungry all the time. Last night I was already 250+ calories over and couldn't get to sleep because my stomach was complaining about being empty. When I still hadn't fallen asleep and it was after midnight I ate a banana and put it on today's calories. Yesterday was the first day in a long time that I went over or even close to my protein goal though. I really think that I've been eating less protein than I should have been for too long, so I'm really trying to increase it.

This all doesn't help at the moment when I'm stuck at work for another 4-5 hours and I've eaten my lunch and everything else that I brought to eat today. Hungry!!! I think that if I had had time to boil some eggs this morning, I'd be in a better position than I am. I wonder if the cafeteria is still open?
