Great threadstarter! Love the last part.
So, I ran 5k again this morning and it was terrible. On the one hand, I can't believe how much I lost in stamina?ability?etc, in such a short time. On the other hand, I haven't tried an afternoon run, which is my normal time. I mean, I've always wanted to be one of those people who gets up and runs every morning at sunrise....but it STINKS! Okay, I might be a little cranky because I literally didn't sleep a wink last night. I tried, but couldn't. After a certain point, I just said, "That's it. If I'm gonna run, I'm just going to have to stay up." Going to be an interesting day for me today.
Laura, good idea about extra accountability for food. Maybe we can brainstorm some ideas.
Maybe we could do daily stickers as our signature, depending on if you're staying within an acceptable range, like this:
or this
Or howabout some other ideas e'body??
Have a great day!

Those stickers are awesome!
Sherry if you didn't sleep last night the day isn't going to get any better, so awesome job getting your run in right away. Now it's over with and you don't have to debate later whether you're up to it or not. You rocked what ya got!
I slept more hours in the past 36 hours than I probably have in the rest of the last week put together, but I'm feeling so much better. My trainer homework for tonight is supposed to be a 30 minute bike ride following by a 30 minute run but it looks like that might get rained out. Thunderstorms are supposed to move in late afternoon. Maybe they'll hold off later than expected. Otherwise tomorrow's workout is in the gym so I can do that tonight and hope it's dry tomorrow night.0 -
Sherry - I might need to check that out! it sounds like it might be what I need. Morning runs are harder. I do them just because it's the only time of day I can. But the problem from going from sleeping (or in your case, trying to sleep) is that my body is not warmed up. When I run at night, after being up and about all day, I'm hitting my stride after about 10 minutes. Running in the morning takes closer to 20/30 minutes.
BT- Your plan sounds pretty solid to me. No need to make huge changes close to a race, and focusing on eating quality should help with everything else!
So, I went out to eat yesterday at my Staff meeting. Made great choices until I saw the brownie. It was a truly epic brownie and all my defenses crumbled. So I went over in calories.
I was following a more advanced training schedule for my half marathon. But I had to reevaluate that. My hubby works full time and is in school, I'm doing everything else on my own, on top of all my volunteering. so it was wearing me down to the point of burning out. I found a beginner one that is farm more manageable. I really wanted to blast my time this year, but between health and stress I need to be taking a more moderate approach. there's always next year!
Other frustrations, I had an ablation to help with excessive bleeding. It helped only mildly. I have a follow up in a month and more than likely am looking at having a hysterectomy. I'll be glad to be done with bleeding, but this whole process has taken two and a half years thus far and that also is wearing me down. But hopefully this will be my last few months of struggling with this! Combine this with the fact that I've been making much better food choices and exercising regularly and still gained a couple pounds this week and I woke up feeling frustrated. I know in my head that this will happen as I gain muscle, and that my body is exceptionally slow at adjusting to changes. But it still can really get to me at times. I just have to focus on getting healthy, and improving fitness instead of losing weight.
Today I'm not sure how to even count my calories as my hubby and. I are playing on jet skis and kayaking at the lake. So yeah. Randomness that does burn calories, but no way to really track accurately how much.
I'm planning on following the same idea as bt - just try to focus on good food choices today. I'll still track what I eat but it will be hard to judge how I actually did. Some days are just like that!
Goals for today:
Have fun being kid free!
Avoid lots of snacking and make choices to eat real food...not processed junk!0 -
Valma I'm sorry to hear the ablation wasn't a success.
When the weather is nice I'm a morning runner because that's when I have the most time. I'll run before work then see my trainer or take Pilates in the evening. In the winter when I'm stuck on the treadmill during the week I just sneak it in before or after my strength workout when I'm at the gym anyway. I generally prefer to break it up - I have more energy in the morning then I do right after legs day at the gym.
Having said that I just ran tonight - homework was a 30 minute bike ride followed by a 30 minute run. Didn't take nearly as long to get feeling back in my legs after the bike ride as it did on Saturday, but I also biked about half as long (30 minutes vs 55). Still my trainer wants me to get used to that transition so it's all good experience. As on Saturday my running pace was faster after getting off the bike than it typically is. I don't feel like I'm moving any faster but I'm breathing harder so I'm getting a cardio workout anyway.0 -
Yet another rest day...still healing...0
