Completely new to this

Hi all, I've just been reading some of the threads and am finding them very informative. I am on Vancouver Island in Canada and about 6 months to sleeve surgery. I'm still working on the emotional eating problems, and portion control and am open to any advice or tips you may have. I tend to do OK for a week or so, then I slide back to old habits. Does anyone have any tips for staying on track?
Thank you

I completely feel your pain when it comes to emotional eating. Every emotion I had was completely attached to food. After surgery though, I knew food had to be completely different. It's like while I was in surgery a switch clicked on. You'll look at food in a whole new light. I can't explain it, but after surgery you'll know. You have to remember why you're doing it. You want a new, healthy life.0

I too experienced a totaly reversal of how I view food. Prior to surgery any negative emotion would cause me to eat anything and everything. Post surgery, negative emotion makes me want to avoid eating completely. I just don't care at those times if I get my protein in or not. I can't explain it either but I can tell you this is not universal. There are a lot of people on here who still struggle with emotional eating.
You are smart to try and get a handle on the issue now in case you are one of the people who still battle the emotional eating after surgery. I also battle head hunger. I'm not really hungry in fact I might actually feel full, but I want to eat anyway. For that, because it usually starts in the afternoon, I try and break up my dinner by eating the protein portion at dinner time and then waiting a couple of hours to eat the vegtable/salad. If I still want to munch and don't have the calories left in my day I try and fill up on flavored water, drink until I am really full and know anything more will come back up. It might not be the best, but it works for me.

Hello there! Im Allison and Im over in Calgary, AB. :drinker:
Emotional eating is something I didnt think I had a problem with until I really looked at everything. I find it mostly affects me when Im nervous. What I did at first was stick a couple ice cubes in my mouth when I caught myself getting *snacky* . They took time to melt in my mouth (since I wear dentures, I cant crunch them anymore..lol) and let my brain think Im eating but since its just water, it didnt wreck my progress.
Now Id like to think Im getting better at just recognizing the feelings that cause me to want to stick something in my mouth as just feelings and letting them run their course.0 -
