Hip pain- possible trochanteric bursitis?

I took a few days off from my daily strengthening exercises (clamshell, leg lifts, stretching) and from running while a friend was visiting. I finally got my W6D2 run in yesterday, and felt really tight during the run. After the run, as well as today, I've been having a decent amount of hip pain, on both sides but especially on the left side. This is the first time it has happened to me.

Based on the location (on my hip bone towards the side of my leg) and a google search, the most likely culprit is trochanteric bursitis. Has anyone struggled with this? Does anyone have good strengthening exercises to add to my routine to target this? My lower body pains have been rotating around while running over the past 6 weeks, so I'm not going to go to a doctor unless it doesn't go away with treatment at home. Also, I'm already behind my training schedule, so I'd prefer not to take time off unless 100% necessary.

Thank you!

If it's bursitis, you should take it seriously. If you've self-diagnosed and think you have an inflammation going on, I don't quite understand why you wouldn't give it some rest. Why the hurry?

If you play tennis, you're probably familiar with tennis elbow in one way or the other. People aggravate their elbow further by not taking a break. Same with student's elbow, the only way to successfully reduce the inflammation is to avoid putting pressure on that spot when studying.
  • Calcium and Magnisium might help if its bone density....best thing you can do then is to run. I dont know anything about trochanteric bursitis, though.
