Trying to Figure it All Out

I have a tentative surgery date ( sleeve procedure )scheduled for 11/13/14 and I am still very unsure if this is the route that I want to go. I have seen the surgeon 2x and the nutritionist as well and completed most of my presurgical requirements. Psych eval is next week. I guess I just don't know if I am ready for this big of a change.
I have been going to the gym 4-5x a week and changed my eating significantly and have lost almost 10lbs in 2 months. I see a trainer 2x a week at the gym and he has been working on my nutrition and food habits. I just don't want to have the surgery and then lose the momentum because I can't go to the gym for a while and fall back into my old habits. I feel like for the first time I am enjoying exercise and enjoy the challenge of completing new things.
My next visit with the surgeon is 10/1 and hopefully I will have a better idea by then as to what I am doing.

Your concerns sound similar to the OP in the following topic: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1432193-could-you-have-lost-weight-without-surgery
As far as losing momentum, I think you will find the opposite occurs. Surgery is going to keep you hyper focused on what you eat/how you are active for the first few months in particular.
Best of luck in your journey, whatever decision you ultimately make!0 -
Five pounds a month is a good weight loss. Only you can decide if you can keep going and make your goal without surgery, then maintain it after. Surgery is not the easy way out. It makes permanent changes. Permanent. I think it works because, besides the obvious stomach size restriction, it adjusts your hormones and your gut flora so your cravings go away, or lighten substantially. It changes your taste buds. Foods you love now may be unappealing after surgery. for me, food has generally become uninteresting. I don't know if that is permanent, but it's the case right now.
whatever your decision, I wish you the best.0 -
We all go through that phase. Most of us delay surgery for years, thinking we can do it without surgery. It almost never happens. One thing you will hear almost everyone say -- I wish I had done it sooner.0
