Because I choke on enough of them while I'm trying to run that I think I should probably track them. :explode:
They are TERRIBLE this year. Anyone else having this problem?

I know! If they aren't choking me, they are biting me. Little jerks...1 -
such a nuisance0

Oh they were a nuissance to the point I took a pic (now deleted) of them covering our EZ-UP while camping. I did quit running a certain route (or walking it now) because of them. NOW it is so COLD here so soon, and unseasonably...I think we are good! They don't DO cold! :smooched: Kiss Goodbye gnats!!1

Crickets (120 calories / 100g)
Protein: 12.9 grams (42.5%)
Fat: 5.5 grams fat (40.7%)
Carbohydrates: 5.1 grams (16.8%)
Grasshoppers (150 calories / 100g)
Protein: 20.6 grams (54%)
Fat: 6.1 grams (36%)
Carbohydrates: 3.9 grams (10%)
Red ants (100 calories / 100g)
Protein: 13.9 grams (56%)
Fat: 3.5 grams (32%)
Carbohydrates: 2.9 grams (12%)
Caterpillars (280-390 calories / 100g)
Protein: 25-53 grams (36-54%)
Fat: 20 grams (46-64%)
Carbohydrates: N/A (0%)
So, the macros are probably somewhere between:
Protein: 36-56%
Fat: 32-64%
Carbs: 0-17%
Based on the fact that they're not a whole lot like caterpillars, I'm guessing you're expecting to be more on the high end of the carb scale, not the low end. So, figure about 4-5g of carbs per 100g of gnats you chow down.11 -
They are TERRIBLE here. Can't take a walk or do much work outside. Fall cannot get here fast enough!0

But the question is...are those carbs digestible? I think the bulk of those carbs come from the chitin. :drinker:
Edit: okay, curiosity got the best of me and I looked it up. Turns out that we can make the enzymes necessary to digest chitin, but it seems to be use it or lose it.2 -

I know I can't wait for fall to get here and stay. It was cooler in the evening yesterday so I was able to run the last bit without involuntarily swallowing gnats. They've been in the house, too. Even though we have no food out, they linger like vultures!0 -

Whoa. 100g of gnats...that's a lot of gnats...:noway: Pffft! 5 carbs! Not worth it. Even if I were cool enough to be able to make the chitin-digesting enzyme...too expensive for me. :laugh:1 -
So do we count them?0

How did you even find this?
I don't. I usually only end up swallowing 3 or 4 of the ones I choke on, and they are so small I don't think we are even past a gram. I just watch my carbs extra close the rest of the day.4 -
Lol, I was wondering if I could locate any of my old pals by back tracking. I found you DragonWolf and Sabine. Also FitGoat.
Knitormiss and Glossbones were soon after lol

These are the consequences of your decisions, MFP.
Step 1: Missing News Feed
Step 2: Lori gets bored.
Step 3: ANARCHY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bedlam. Rioting in the streets. And worst of all...disappearing down rabbit holes and finding the Mad Hatter.

Do not allow Lori to get bored.
Chaos follows.3 -

What's disgusting is when they fly up your nose. They make me look like I'm on a bad trip, or just having a mental episode.4 -
Here it's fall stinkbugs: They are seriously stupid and fly right into you, it's what I really hate about them. They are approx 2 cm long. They are called stinkbugs because most people think they smell awful, when they sense danger they put out some sort of chemical. I'm one of the few people I've met that thinks they smell like sour green apples with cinnamon, lol. But then again I like the smell of skunk (from a distance of course). It's probably like people who can smell the asparagus pee and people who are missing that gene.
Perhaps they'd be good in a keto pie for dessert this holiday season.... takers??

I don't smell them. At least you know they are coming. They sound like a miniature helicopter is buzzing you. VRRRRROOOOOOM. Incoming! So I duck. I'm going to end up with PTSD. Get outta my house!3
