Carrying a Bag While Running a 5k?

I'm running my second 5K this Sunday morning and it's expected to rain. I want to bring a change of clothes and shoes to the race so I can change after and not be soaked and miserable at the party after. The problem is, I don't drive. I plan to take the bus to the race and take the bus back afterwards. I tried running with a bag at my first 5k last month and it was a nightmare. It was bouncing all over the place and the straps were constantly sliding down. I spent more time and energy focused on keeping it steady than on actually running. Any ideas or suggestions? Should I just suck it up and "drip dry"? It's supposed to be in the high 60's/low 70's, so at least it won't be freezing!

Wow, well done for taking on the challenge. What are your times?

I'm on week 4 so hopefully I will manage it too soon. I was going to combine it with a swim. Ie run to the pool then swim, then walk back. I was thinking of using a waist pack to carry things with, it is smaller than a rucksack, but with 8L capacity should be able to hold a microfiber towel, spare t-shirt and leggings and swim suit.

They are meant for longer runs and trek but I might try it.

Would that work for you too?

    Good luck!
