What's Your Take on SPAM, Vienna Sausages & Bolagna?

Would like to hear comments about these three (similar type) foods?
They are high in fat & protein. Yes, I do read the labels, they do have a tiny amount of carbs, some preservatives, lots of salt.
They are easy to take/eat for lunch or a snack.
To me, I love the taste of all of them. I haven't eaten SPAM for years, because it was demonized for being a high fat food. I just bought a can of it to see if I still like it.
Yes, I also know they are made of some leftover animal parts, but that doesn't bother me. I can see that just the thought of that would keep people away from it. I don't like sushi, never tried it, I can't get over the thought of raw fish. It probably tastes good, but they'll have to fry or cook it before it touches my lips!

Strictly speaking they qualify for low carb. My personal take on them is they are processed meat like sludge full of nitrates and sodium and I would just as soon eat a dog turd.0

I haven't had vienna sausages or bologna since I was a child.
Spam is extremely popular where I live. It's not something I eat regularly, but pan fried Spam tastes good. I'll eat it maybe a handful of times a year.
I try to avoid nitries/nitrates as much as possible. So while the above are all protein and qualify for low-carb, especially if one is on a budget, it's not where I want to spend my money.
Sushi isn't raw fish. Raw fish can be something sushi is made from. Technically sashimi is raw fish. Sushi can be made from cooked eggs, cooked eel, cucumber, carrots, all sorts of cooked seafood. I love sushi! These days I don't eat it as much because of the rice.0 -
If you don't have gal bladder issues or tummy troubles eat them, they are no different then eating bacon except for few carbs.0

I should not read forum posts while hungry. Just ran out to buy some liverwurst. It has sugar in it but even eating 3 oz I am only at 7g (gross) of carbohydrates. I too avoid nitrates. Also sugar if possible.0

I really don't like the taste or texture of these foods, so they are definitely off my menus.0

Spam is a popular food in Okinawa and in Hawaii, where they make onigiri rice balls with spam filling! I eat processed meats like these in moderation, but they are ok on low carb if that is what you like. Just track how you feel after eating them...
Nigiri sushi is one of my favorites, but the sushi rice is seasoned with mirin (wiki: It is a kind of rice wine similar to sake, but with a lower alcohol content and higher sugar content.), so that makes it not very low carb. Low carb is sashimi or grilled fish.0 -

Hmm, talking about sushi, anyone gave any good low carb recipes I can make at home (aside from sashimi of course ) ? I love the presentation and interesting flavours you get from rolls yum0 -

Personally, I would like to avoid anything processed but for now its an easy way to get protein and fat while staying low carb. I like all three, too. Especially Spam and Bologna fried in coconut oil!0

How about hand-rolled sushi? Just minimize the rice, or leave it out
google it, take a look here at these yummy pics: https://www.google.com/search?q=hand+rolled+sushi&espv=2&biw=1242&bih=592&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=j3ciVLKmIo7W8gWUyIDQDA&ved=0CBwQsAQ
I love avocado on anything!0 -
For sushi:
I get what's called a lollypop roll. It is a sushi roll wrapped in cucumber. It has a typical filling with raw fish, avacado, sometimes other veggies, and then this super thin "sheet" of cucumber that it's wrapped up in and cut like a sushi roll. It's called a lollypop roll because they spear it with a stick so it stays together. I don't eat a ton of sushi but I've found this served in many establishments. If you google lollypop roll you can get some pictures to see what I'm talking about.0 -
I don't think anyone would confuse these processed foods with healthy eating, but they do fit into a keto eating plan and probably won't kill you if you indulge once in a while. It's cheap food too and sometimes when the budget is really tight it's a better answer than resorting to high carb cheap foods.0
