Hi all!
I went out to do 10k today (my downtown 5k x2). Got a little later start, so it was a bit warmer and more pedestrian traffic (especially on the 2nd round...I had to walk past the Athens flea market, b/c Sunday is the big day), but I got it done. There was some walking on the 2nd round, or should I say "hobbling", when my right ankle would just not let me go as fast as I'd liked. But at least the left ankle wasn't much of a problem today. Strangely enough, now that I'm home and recovering, my right ankle feels totally fine, but the left one bothers me when I get up and down. Anyway, slowly but surely, I'm building back up and I think I'm managing the ankle stuff pretty well. I just need to get stronger/faster so that I can more easily maintain good form all the time.
*Might* go to gym this afternoon to get a jump on next week. Not sure yet, still too early to tell.

My foot is feeling pretty good after my 10K run yesterday. Arch was a little bit tight but my heel didn't hurt at all, so I'm really happy about that.
Typically my trainer gives me homework over the weekends, but this weekend all he specifically told me to do was the 10K run yesterday. It looks like it's going to be a nice day (cool but sunny) so I'll likely get out on my bike later. Might as well spend time outside while the weather still cooperates. Fall is already settling in - the leaves on the trees are changing color and the high temp today is expected to be 61F (16C).0 -
Doing mini hike in the hills soon then work rest of day.
Have a great day runners!
Our fall colors are starting too Laura, love this time of year, so pretty and not as hot so can be outdoors more during day.
Hope you heal quick Sherri, have you been to doc for it? or physical therapy?0 -
Definitely agree about the weather this time of year being perfect for outdoors!
Unfortunately I didn't make it to the gym. I was stuck home with lil girl, who was supposed to go to her greatgrandmother's with her Dad, but she refused. She ended up being "grounded" to her room for awhile and son went with DH. Anyway, I was stuck at home.
Marla, no, I've not seen anyone about my legs. I don't know why, but I have always found that things tend to work themselves out better than going the medical route. I've found, in my experience, that if I'm too alarmist over stuff, I end up with more problems resulting from the so-called treatment, than if I'd just taken a "wait and see" approach. If anything, I'd love to see some sort of running coach/expert who could help me with my form--but nevermind, I think it'll all work out, once I get back to the level I was at before vacay. And, as an optimist, I look on the bright side of it--I found a great new product out of all this ankle trouble. I saw at the pharmacy a bottle of "hydrolyzed collagen" and asked if they thought it'd help with my achilles tendon, to help it heal. They said "maybe", so I bought it. Ends up it's a youth/beauty product. I've seen results from it and kept using it for about 5mos now. In the US, I had people ask how I was keeping so young looking, whether I use botox (I don't), and recently I even had someone tell me they didn't recognize me..."you look younger"!!! Yippee! haha

It's been a rough week and a half for me! It was my TOM and even with the ablation it came after only two weeks from the previous one...was heavy...and came with some crazy hormones. I hadn't felt that weird since I was pregnant. I got depressed (not emotionally but hormones) and had problems getting out of bed or getting anything done. Add this to the fact that my hubby went camping with the guys and added a bunch of extra hours at work so he literally wasn't home much at all for two weeks straight. I got stressed and exhausted...and then hormonal. My eating could have been worse but it was definitely not good either and I didn't get much done by way of workouts. I have a follow-up to my ablation in a couple weeks and will be pushing for a hysterectomy. I can't function when one week out of every two to three I'm unable to function.
But at least now I'm out of the funk and ready to get back into my routine. I slept in a bit, so my run will have to be on the treadmill after I drop kids off at school. it's still 103 here during the day so it's still hot! Next week it's supposed to finally drop back down into double digits.
I have my yearly ladies getaway this weekend. I'm not counting my calories and going to relax and have fun. I'll still get my running in (but on the beach in San Diego!) and I'm not going to engorge myself. But this is my chance to recover from all the stress of running the house and dealing with the kids solo while my hubby works and goes to school. I need a mental break!
Goals:
count my calories for the first time in a week
drink plenty of water
get my run in!0
