What to do about my lead feet..

Hello everyone!
I only recently started running. Right now I am doing a 5k training program to build my stamina. At first I noticed my shin bones would hurt when I ran hard. Is this normal?
They don't hurt so much anymore and I attributed this to basically getting used to what I was doing but now my inner lower calves are killing me when I run.
My fiance says he can here my feet hitting the track over his music every time I run by.
Am I running wrong? Is this common? I truly have no idea. I don't know any runners to ask....
