I'm new and apprehensive

Hi. I am new to this site and curious about how it works.
I am apprehensive in my determination to be diligent, not whether a sensible program works. I had gastric band surgery in 2010. It slipped within 6 weeks, sometimes allowing food to pass and sometimes not at all. I spent the next 2 years often unable to hold anything down. I moved to a different state and was able to see a new surgeon who attempted to work with the band for a year before the GERD became so bad he decide to remove it. That is when we discovered what the problem was - - since it did not show up in any tests. I had RNY surgery after removing the band in 2012 and lost an additional 45 pounds. I am 100 pounds down but now the weight is slowly creeping back and I still need to lose 50 pounds. I realize bypass is not always the easy road out. It has been every bit as much a struggle since the band was put in as it was before. For some it works easy - that has not been the case for me. Every pound has been a struggle. Surgery is a tool. I know it will work, if I use it in combination with a sensible program.
To those of you who are working this after just having the surgery or preparing for it (whichever one it is) I say, “GOOD FOR YOU”! I wish I had figured it out 2 years ago.
I look forward to spending time on this site and taking it one small step at a time. I am starting out small, just wanting to be consistent and stick to it.

Hi Jean! I have a question for you. How has the RnY affected your GERD? I am just starting my WLS journey and because of my GERD diagnosis, have been told that I will probably have to have RnY instead of the sleeve, which is what I was planning. Obviously I don't want to irritate my condition any more, but I am worried about mal absorption with the RnY. How is that going for you?
And great job on your loss! That's amazing!! I'm hoping to have this kind of success with my journey.
Have a great day! And welcome!!

Hi Kelly, My GERD is gone. If I eat very greasy food I notice it, but other than that, nothing. I have NO problem with mal absorption whatsoever. I make sure I take my calcium and vitamins but I seem to absorb fine. Calories especially :}
I know 100# sounds great, and a size 20 is sure better than a size 30, but I would really like to get to onderland!
Good luck. I am so glad I did it! I was up and back to work within 2 days and haven't looked back. Now, if I can just get this last off!
