Low Blood Sugar at Night

I have been watching my calories recently and exercise tends to send me into Low Blood sugar range.
Last night I woke up and had a reading of 59. I drank some juice and ate some food. 15 min later I was at 110
6 hrs later before breakfast I was still at 105.

This is going to throw my whole day off on my calorie intake.

Does this happen to anyone else and Do I need to count all the calories I had when I was going low?
I'm guessing I do just want to hear what other people are doing if they encounter this.
Thanks,

Hey if it happened before midnight put to yesterday an move on. Seriously if a snack and juice makes you feel better physically does it really matter if a few calories on the computer affect the bottom line. Rest assured a few hundred calories will not cause you to gain or lose over the course of your life.

15-15 rule. 15 grams of carbs (I've found the best is about 4 ounces of orange juice, as it hits the bloodstream faster than pretty much anything else) and test again 15 minutes later. If you are still hypo, repeat.

Yes, I track it, but no, I won't adjust my meal plan around it. I typically end up coming in under my caloric goals anyways, and so if this one puts me over for the day... so be it.

Although, this is why I ended up coming off my glyburide... of the last 6 times I took it, 6 times did I go hypo as a direct correlation to the meds (no other changes).

Sadly, without the glyburide helping keep things down, my fasting numbers are now up 10 points, so I'm trying to work on them.

Anyways, yes - log it, ignore it, and just keep on.
  • Exercise can decrease blood sugar levels right away, and sometimes that effect can be delayed for a few hours. Talk with your doctor about what you're experiencing so that he can make medication adjustments if necessary. ~Lynn /Glucerna

I have a little pill called Glimperide that I take that causes my lows. I have noticed that if I take half of it I wake up from fasting at about 130. With the whole pill since I have been watching my calories I am at about 90 fasting. Then If I exert myself (not even exercising yet) I might end up with a low during the night.

The last time I went low all I did was push a cart around walmart for 2 hours load the car and unload the groceries. Then had a 2 pieces of Papa Johns for supper and I was FULL!

I have an appointment coming up in 2 weeks with doc, will provide her my numbers and let the expert decide if I need to half my pill.

Thanks for the advice! I have been discussing with my wife about our weight loss, She gained during her first week and I was like it is ok, Until it happens to you, Ugh it is depressing! I understand her pain now. We decided that regardless of what the scale says week in and out that we keep watching our calories and in time we will get to our healthier body destinations.

    Thanks for listening.
  • I really like how you're working together with your wife to lose weight, and that you're paying attention to the changes you're making to your eating habits and exercise, knowing that weight loss will happen. ~Lynn /Glucerna
