Thought I'd post an intro thread. :-)

Hey everyone! I'm Mandi... 24 & mom to a 2 1/2 year old boy. I also babysit another 2 year old about 50 hours per week! I recently started couch-to-5k and I'll be doing week 2, day 2 tonight. I have a fitness center at my apartments that is 24-hours, so I go down there once the kiddo is asleep and his daddy is home.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

  • Hello everyone!! I completed W6D1 last night and will do day 2 tomorrow. I had to run on the dreaded treadmill last night as it was raining. Hopefully will get outside tomorrow night although it's suppose to get cold!! I love this program. I've never been a runner ever. I'm running my first 5K on Thanksgiving with my husband and cousin.

    I'm a c25k recycle.

I completed the program October of last year, but in April (for various reasons) I fell off the health wagon hard and stopped running. So I started the program back up last month. I completed W5D1 yesterday and I completely enjoy this approach to running. It's so motivating!

I was planning on running a 5k on Thanksgiving also, but since I cannot run the entire 5k yet, I'm still waffling about it.

I don't plan on running any races, I'm just in it to strengthen my bones and heart and burn calories  That's supposed to be what running can do for you, right? I'm not sure how much I can improve, if I can work up to jogging for 10 minutes in a row I will be over the moon! I'm very glad for this group :flowerforyou:

DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!! Even if you can't run the whole way. Do it!!! I am almost certain that you won't regret it. I just did my first 5k a couple of weeks ago and it was amazing. There is so much energy in the crowd of runners and the crowd of people cheering you on. It's just a fantastic feeling. And there are people who run it in under 20 minutes and people who walk it in an hour and so many in between. You definitely don't need to run the entire thing!! :) It's so much fun!

I agree! I have been waffling about a run on December 3 because I am only on week 2 of C25K, but I'm going for it! I think sighning up for the run will keep me motivated to stay with the program. By the time the run gets here, I will be at the end of week 5 so it will be interesting to see how much I actually can run.

i hadn't planned on really running but thought I would give it a try to keep me motivated at the gym but now I'm thinking a 5K is in my future - in 2012.

I just finished W3D1 yesterday so I'm still a newbie.
  • I did W4D1 this morning. It kicked my butt, and it felt GREAT. I'm doing the program on a treadmill right now. When I complete it, I plan to do it again, but hitting the pavement.
My goal is to run my first 5K by March. And to compete in a Duathlon (5k run/25k bike/5k run) by the end of next summer.

Oh neat - I'd never heard of a duathlon but that sounds like something I'd really like to try! A triathlon is a bit much for me (my swimming isn't up to snuff, though I could work on that...), but this sounds fun and manageable!

Hello all!! I just started Week 8 yesterday and I am beyond thrilled with the progress that I have been making. I've started and stopped C25K several times since starting running in the spring of 2010 and have done several 5Ks in the last year, but this is the first time that I have gotten so far in the program. I was in physical therapy for an injury earlier this year and decided to do C25K to get back into running without over doing it and it was the best decision I could have made! I'm running faster than I was before and feel like my goal of a sub-30 minute 5K is well within my grasp!

Very much looking forward to hearing about all of the success that I know you will find!!!

    Hi, people!!

I'm in my 2nd week of C25K. I'm actually going to complete WK2, D3 tonight.

I'll admit, week 2 has kicked my butt. I'm a very, very slow jogger, but hey, slow movement is better than no movement, right?

I had signed up for a 5K a few months ago but never got around to starting the C25K program until, obviously, 2 weeks ago and the 5K I signed up for is THIS Saturday. Oops. Looks like I'll be doing my C25K training during the race

I run outside on pavement. I figured since the race was going to be on pavement then it would probably be best if that's where I trained as well.

Hello everyone. My name is Mark and this is my second time through the C25K program. I completed it last year and continued for a little while after, but started hanging out with some old friends and picked up some of my bad old habits. This led to me falling off the running/exercising/health conscious wagon until recently. I finished W1D2 today and regret ever stopping because I really enjoy being out there! I am going to sign up for a 5k in Feb, and another one that is in March next week. I hope to be able to run the first one within 30 minutes. I also hope to complete a triathlon next summer, and the Toronto Waterfront half marathon next fall.

I'm a recent graduate of the program(10/16/11) and did it on my treadmill. I've now got the full cold weather outside running gear and am building up to run a full 5k race! I plan on entering something soon and just going for it best as I can. Feel free to ask me anything C25k related! Good luck on your own running journies! :drinker:

What is the best way to start the program? I've gone on the website and read about it but wanted opinions of people who've actually done it.
  • Hi all!

I graduated from the program a little less than a year ago, and I've been running ever since, including having completed a 10K this spring, and a mud run last month.

To start, just print out the weekly schedule--or, if you have a smartphone or something similar, download the app--and just get out there and do it. The program starts you off slow, and gets you going.

Always take it at YOUR pace--not some pace that you think you should be doing. You should still be able to hold light conversation throughout the exercise.

And don't be upset if, say, you have to repeat a week in order to move forward. It's all in the spirit of building your ability to run consistently without injuring yourself, not trying to get to the end as fast as or faster than everyone else.

Most of all, have fun! I had a great time. I never thought I would be a runner, but now I am--I'm training for a half-marathon next spring/summer, and a relay race for fall in which I will be running three legs of 10K each. It feels great to get yourself to that point.

I'm happy to answer any questions if I can, but I just wanted to join the group and encourage everyone to have fun. It's so worth it!

Hello everyone! I completed W2D1 last night. Every time I do this it seems to get easier. I am doing it on my treadmill bc I live out in the middle of nowhere on gravel roads, so don't have nice pavement! Is anyone else doing this that's pretty significantly overweight?? that would be ME! I have about 150+ lbs to loose...

I've been struggling with the whole treadmill thing - even when I was 100 lbs lighter I had problems with keeping my balance! It's so strange. I don't know if I have an inner ear infection, or maybe my hips are out and causing imbalance - any suggestions? Just when I think I get the hang of it I have times like last night where I struggle to not fall off the damn thing like an idiot throughout my whole session! (THANK GOD I have a treadmill at home! lol)

PrettyKitty, the best way to start is just to start! :-)

Seriously though, I am doing it a treadmill before going outside, just to get my stamina up. The warm up walk isn't enough for me so I do some stretches before getting started. Have a good playlist that keeps you going and just watch the times. There's an app you can download for iphone or Android as well but I just printed out the schedule and put it in front of me on the treadmill and adjust the speeds as appropriate. Good luck!!

Congrats on sticking with it! I have about 60 pounds more to lose so I'm also hitting the treadmill rather than the real pavement! I also had some trouble when I started on the treadmill because my balance is not that great anyway. I started holding the bars and as I've progressed I don't have to hold them anymore and I haven't fallen off... I'm also doing yoga and working on my balance there and that's helped a lot. At least you're at home, I'm at the YMCA and could really embarrass myself in front of a lot of people!

Hi! I'm Elisabeth. I started c25k back in August, but I've had a couple setbacks. Every time I had a setback it was in week 7. I'm cursed at week 7. Last one was a sprained ankle followed by the flu. I run outside, but it's getting pretty cold. May have to join a gym soon.

I started c25k because I quit smoking and was attempting to boost my metabolism. I've never been a runner. I've had a lot of orthopedic issues/surgeries and was convinced I couldn't run. Turns out I can. Who knew?
