Campaign or online, which do you prefer?

I am more of a single player campaign player. I can't devote the time and energy to the online fragfests to make me much more than a statistic. I also get very weary very quickly of the tweenage morons, and just blocking their voices isn't always enough. Which do you prefer?

Always offline campaign.
It is sad that the offline game suffers as developers focus on the online MMO play.0 -
From my online start back on Bnet playing the original Starcraft, I too, have grown tired of the imbeciles. I prefer offline though mainly play just MMOs now, so can't help but be surrounded by the masses of morons. -.-0

Single player, definitely. Sure, I can have some mindless fun on multiplayer, but the depth of a detailed story driven campaign is just a totally immersive experience.0

I'm almost salivating waiting for SC2 HotS, but only for single player campaign, and then watching tournaments of multiplayer. No interest at all of playing it online v others.0
-
Wow - I am very surprised that I am the sole multiplayer fan out there. Then again, that may be because I'm not as hardcore of a gamer as many... storyline matters to me, but the opportunity to link up (i prefer co-op) can be a lot of fun too.0

I love playing multi-player. I find it amusing how grown men cry about dying in games. That being said, I also enjoy offline mode too.0

I love both, really. Online multiplayer is an addictive time waster. Great for playing with friends I dont see much of.
I hate that campaigns tend to be so short on games that have online.0 -
Online. I've made some amazing friends in various online games. I just ignore the kiddies and idiots.0

All men who cry about dying in games should be forced to play Dark Souls. They'll get over that problem real quick.0 -
Online only. unlesss playing through the campaign unlocks something nice online. i like playing against humans because you never know what to expect.0

Mostly play online, I like the more social side of it. I've got a group of friends and we all play the games together. Not proper serious though, I hate the 'clans' you get on CoD and other games like that that just play to win every match. We just play it for fun.0
-
I like both at different times. I love a really involved story, but some of my favorite games were multiplayer, like Battlefield 2. I really enjoy multiplayer with a group of friends.0
-
I always start out new games in Campaign, then I move over into Multi. I do that mostly for the social aspect and playing with my friends. I'm not hardcore, but I love to play, even if I have to be the moving target0

Single player campaign. Getting kicked by a bunch of 13 year olds online frustrates the hell out of me.0
-
Online multiplayer for sure.0
-
The trouble i find online multiplayer is unless you play nothing but that game, you'll always be way behind everyone else, thus making it no fun...0

I really can't get into online multiplayer. I don't play well with others in general, and as weird as it sounds, it's just too much pressure to be in an online game. I don't want to screw up anybody else's play time because I can't shoot my stupid bow right or whatever, you know? If I screw up, which I do frequently, I don't want it to affect anyone else's experiences besides my own.0

offline for metal gear solid and god of war (obvious)
anything else online0 -
Single Player only here. I only do multi in MMO's and old school 007 Goldeneye on the N64.0
-
Online- I like to socialize and eventually you find the un tweanage mature crowd (I usually end up in a guild/clan/supergroup/alliance etc. of people who average around 30 and range from 20-60)0

I think it depends on the crowd you are with, and the game you play. For example (tooting my horn for a little here), my guild in World of Warcraft is very family oriented. We've had boss fights where the Main Tank or Main Healer will just go AFK partway into the fight because a kid needed attention, for whatever reason. We wipe, we find out what happened, we laugh, and we go back and do it again.
We are very focused on supporting each other, and just having fun, so the social aspect is key for us. We love downing bosses and getting the shinies, but none of us would be playing if it wasn't for the social side of it.
Even when someone isn't distracted and makes a mistake that causes us problems, we are still laid back enough we don't mind. Everyone has to learn - and if the person is willing to put in the effort to learn, we don't mind helping them.0 -
I'm all about the single player. I don't have a whole ton of time to hone my video gaming skills to be able to compete in the big leagues, so i'm fine trying to beat the computer on each successive wave of harder and harder levels.0

Yeah... I've tried to play various games online a couple of times, and the people I was playing with were certainly NOT understanding of noobs. So I gave up. *shrug* No big. I don't have enough game time to worry about it these days.0 -
Multiplayer without a doubt.
Campaign is fine, but everyone needs to be ridiculed by 8 year olds and then spank them repeatedly online!0 -

Agreed!0 -
I got BF3 and have not even touched the single player mode...done co-op and multi..that is why I got it.0

To quote Yahtzee:
"The online community can charitably be described as "Lively", or uncharitably as a "Bunch of hooting ****holes. The entire thing in in dire need of smacktard fumigation".
But, in amongst the noobs, l33tist asshats, pricks, etc, there are a few good people!0 -

I'm really trying to tone down my l33tist prick attitude! Really!0 -
I don't mind multiplayer, and I'm never shy about being a noob. I'll be the one to take the hits if needed. Sometimes someone has to take one for the team - that's usually me, but I get a good laugh out of it. It's fun! Even the more serious players I play with have patience, I just make sure I don't mess up what they are doing Easy enough! I'm not in it for the highest scores.
However, when I played WOW i was on top of it. Our guild was amazing though. Similar to one of the other posters, where if something unexpected happened it was no big deal. You just go and try again or reschedule for the next time. It's all about learning.0 -
Campaign by far. I did play the heck out of online COD:Modern warfare a few years back for some reason. I also played MAG for a while, which was fun. I play a bit of NHL online. If I play online, the mute button is usually the first one I learn. :laugh:0
