Hi! I had RNY on March 31, 2010. Due to a bunch of complications it was redone on August 30, 2010. I was 315 pounds at my starting weight and 145 at my lowest. Since then I have bounced up and down. Some due to my Hyperthyroid (Grave's Disease) which really fights my weight loss. The surgery was a great tool and very necessary, but now I find that they only way to keep the weight off is with regular exercise and eating right...the old fashioned way!
I love my new lifestyle and, even though it's a constant struggle, I am very happy with the results.
Now if I could just get rid of the last 15 pounds!

Congrats on the weight loss. You're right...maintaining the loss can only be done with good eating and exercise. But the tool [surgery] makes it easier for us. I could never lose weight, never mind keep it off before surgery. I had minor successes but nothing long term.
I had RNY July 27th, 2011 and lost 61lbs to date. Im in a plateau and joining a gym later today to help break through that.
Best of luck on your journey0 -
Awesome job with your weight loss so far!! This is an amazing tool, but the plateaus do happen...and sometimes, like in my case, a little bounce back at the end. I'm very determined that I will take off the last 15 and maintain.
I love my gym membership and the fitness classes are addicting!! My doctor told me that 40% of wls patients regain some or all of their weight. I'm determined NOT to be a statistic!!0 -
Hey! You live up "my way"...I'm in Duluth. Good luck on losing those last 15 pesky pounds. I'm working on my last 8!0

You are a true inspiration...Thank you for sharing your story here with this group. Do you have any secret ways of getting rid of batwings and the skin inside the thigh area. Just started losing after gastric bypass 10-17-2011 and curious on how I can help this skin out. Thanks in advance:flowerforyou: And good luck on your last 15!0

My extra skin is slowly improving....especially the batwings I take a mixture of cardio and body sculpt fitness classes. Do some weight lifting too. My thighs are my biggest problem area right now. I'm doing squats regularly too. I also have been making sure to use a lot lotion and oil to help keep my skin elasticity.
The weights are definitely helping my arms!0 -
You've done great. I am at a plateau too and my first day at the gym is tomorrow. I joined over a week ago but I guess you have to actually go to make it effective. My daughter is going with me to get me used to it. You have such a good chance of keeping off your weight because you realize how vigilant you have to be and you know that exercise is really key to your success.0

Oh and, if you stop training for a marathon, you can't keep eating like you are training for a marathon. Who knew?!
(That's my joke on myself because I was training for a marathon, bonked my head, and now I can't work out and gained 5 pounds in 3 weeks before I got a grip on myself!)0
