Good Morning or good evening all depending on where you are in the world. My name is Randy, live in Coral Springs, Florida. Originally from Brooklyn, then Long Island NY. Turned 50 this year and am beginning to get the signs of what I think is perimenopause - Night Sweat, heavier, longer periods and the mood swings, well not too bad so far. It comes and goes.
I'm actually having less symptoms this year than last so i'm not sure what my body is doing. There are so many recommendations out there of how to keep comfortable during this process from Black Cohash to Hormone Replacement Therapy.
My mom started menopause or probably perimenopause at 50 and the hot flashes and sweats never stopped until the day she died. She seemed to be in menopause for nearly 25 years. I'm am hoping not to follow that pattern. I'm a little scared of taking hormones. My mom was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer at age 68 and died from it at 74. I don't even know if there is a possible link to Ovarian Cancer from taking hormones but it does worry me.
I'm not at the point where I would have to make a decision anyway, but I think I would be more inclined to let my body go through the natural process with maybe supplements to support it until I can't take it anymore.
Please share what if anything you are taking to get through the peri to post menopause stages.
Have a great day everyone.0 -
The only thing that I've found that works for me with the hot flashes/night sweats is progesterone cream. Does anyone else use this? Still, I go in cycles of having them and not, depending on my period.
Also, I noticed that several people mentioned much heavier periods. I've had a few where it was to the point of being in the bathroom every 15 minutes. Research showed me that a high dose (800 mg) of ibuprofen would slow it and it did....thankfully! But, when I do have my period, there is one full day where I have to stay home to take care of my "Aunt Flo". (My husband and I named her that a long time ago!!) :-P0 -
Hi everyone!
I went through peri-menopause and menopause at a fairly young age (late 30s - early 40s). My doctor and I discussed HRT, but after doing a bit of research, I decided against it for a couple of reasons. My mother had Alzheimer's and dementia caused by vascular disease. According to the Mayo Clinic website, HRT can increase the risk of dementia. Since I already have a higher risk of developing dementia, I pretty much decided against HRT then and there. In addition, my symptoms were fairly "mild". I had some hot flashes, but they occurred during the summer months, and I've had bouts of insomnia, but nothing I couldn't deal with My doctor also looked for research on the effects of HRT, but she could find nothing that applied to women my age.
Bottom line, you know your body and family history best. Do some research and talk to your doctor. I realize this is not great advice, but it's my experience and it worked for me. There is no "one size fits all" solution...

I am so pleased to join this group :-D
My GP confirmed earlier this year that I had definitely started the Menopause :-/ and have already passed the peri menopause stage. I have been doing research for the last 6 months and have amassed a huge amount of information which I will be delighted to share with you all as I am on a mission to unravel the mysteries and help available associated with the menopause.
Looking forward to getting to know you all :-D

Good morning everyone! I'm hoping to learn from those who have gone through meopause and offer support to those like me that are entering or in the midst of it now. So far my main complaint would be the hot flashes. I'm goint to try to get through this without hormones if at all possible!0

I had my last period February 04, and hot flashes and night sweats were bad.
I was put on pills the lowest dose Dr. gave me and with being over 35 and a smoker
(I know shouldn't smoke) ended up with a DVT (blood clot in my left leg)
the blood clot was 7 inches long in my thigh.
So for you that need some thing please check it out first.0
