How long before anyone noticed you'd lost weight?

I've lost 12.5lbs in the last 7 weeks and feel so much better. However, nobody has noticed my weight loss yet! I thought that as I'm only 5'2 lbs lost would be more noticeable than on a taller person.

So, I'm curious, how much weight had you lost before people started to notice?

The only time anyone "noticed" I'd lost weight was a few days after I'd told them I was going on a diet... they'd try to flatter me and tell me I'd lost weight so I'd go back to normal habits and they wouldn't have to worry about being the fat one / the only thin one.

It took about 20 or so lbs for anyone to say anything. I would go to work every day, and after about 15lbs, I'd get weird looks but that was it. After the first 20lbs, someone finally asked if I was losing weight, then complimented me.

    Same as you.

I lost 12.5lbs and now I'm noticing that I'm actually smaller now :D

So far, only my husband has noticed (or at least said anything). I dont know if my co workers would really feel comfortable saying HEY! have you lost weight?! :D

I've lost 7lbs and my hubby is the only one that has noticed so far. Having said that my uniform at work tends to disguise figures rather well and I've not been socialising much since I started losing

1.5 months in and about 10 lbs down, people whom I haven't seen in a while have noticed and said something. I haven't seen them since I started, so to them the 10lbs was different. To my coworkers, 1-1.5lbs a week might be tougher to tell; and I'm sure it's not always easy for people to bring up the subject of your weight.

I'm 5'2; after I lost my first 10lbs some friends noticed that my face was thinner. I only noticed it after they pointed it out to me, and then by looking back and comparing my face now to how I looked in the pics from my brother's wedding in September. My landlords commented to me a couple of days ago that I am looking slimmer-I am down just over 14lbs and still have at least 70 to go though.

I think it depends how much weight you have to lose overrall and where you lose it from. I know I lost 20lbs and it was a BIG difference but I had only 10-20more pounds to lose to be "perfect weight" so lots of people commented, however, I'm now down 20lbs from before my son and no one has mentioned that (even after I had him and was smaller) but before him, I was 10-15lbs MORE than when I lost the first 20. Make sense??

So if you have 50lbs to lose and lose 15, it's not as noticeable as if you have 30lbs to lose and lose 15. Also, like someone else said, going by the people you see every day isn't a good measure because the small increments are hard for them to notice but those people you don't see except for holidays, they will notice the 15lb loss faster.

HUGS! We all want validation that what we're doing is working and sometimes we want to hear that we look better.

I'm 5'0 & have lost almost 20, and people have noticed, but not many! I am about 35lbs away from goal, so hopefully more peeps will notice soon :)

Besides my daughter (who knows that I've been working out), no one else has really noticed my weight loss. Not even my husband noticed  . Which is odd, considering that the weight has brought me down 3-4 pant sizes.

It depended on the person. My fiance noticed by 10 lbs, my immediate family noticed by 15 lbs, and my extended family and friends noticed now that I'm getting closer to 20 lb. Don't worry they'll notice and also some people may not want to bring it up because it can be a touchy subject for some so they aren't sure how to bring it up.

That is odd! 3-4 pant size is dramatic!

I'm 5'2" as well and besides my spouse and kids, no one really noticed until I had lost around 20 lbs. I still don't get many compliments as I find people don't know how or if they should address my weight loss so they don't. Outside validation is awesome especially in the beginning when you wonder if this journey is worth it but ultimately you're doing this for yourself. I'm at the point where I'm so proud of myself and happy about the way my body is changing/looking that it doesn't bother me if anyone else notices - aside from my husband, of course. That's what keeps me going now -- knowing that I'm making a difference and that I have the ability to reach my goal... and I will.

Good luck to you and don't get discouraged if people don't notice right away. Eventually they will even if they don't say anything.

Thanks for all your replies. I know I'm doing this weight loss journey for me, and I really do feel so much better and I'm not even half way there yet! I guess I'll just have to wait a while longer until people start to notice - must be a wonderful feeling to get compliments for all the effort put in.

    Good luck to everyone.

It took about 30lbs before anyone noticed with me. Now any of my customers who haven't seen me in a while all say something. People I see every day don't seem to notice.

Yeah...I've lost 16 pounds and can still wear my old pants, and they weren't skin tight before or anything. There is one pair I'll probably have to stop wearing, but the rest are still okay so you must have lost in all the right places to have gone down sizes like that!!!

I had one friend say something to me at just about 10 pounds lost, but she also knows I've been counting calories/exercising. No one else has said anything, which is actually okay with me because attention freaks me out. lol

Well, it's finally happened - someone noticed I've lost weight! I saw a friend last night who I haven't seen since early September when I was 13lbs heavier. She said straight away that she could tell I'd lost weight and was looking good. What a boost!

I don't think people you see regularly really notice until it's a significant loss.

I've lost 7 pounds so far and it's taken me around 40-45 days. I don't look any different, but my clothes fit better.

I've lost 13 pounds since Thanksgiving and the beginning of this week a couple people have commented that my scrubs seem to be looser than they were. I noticed a little because my scrub pants seemed to be a little baggier, but since I see myself everyday I don't really think I look any different, but it was kinda nice when someone said that they've noticed I'm getting smaller. Still a long way to go though.

A few people noticed once I'd lost fifteen pounds.

When I got to 20lbs lost, then everyone started noticing and saying things. :D

    Only 13 more to go.
