So yesterday hubby and I went out fo dinner. There was a new (only a year old) place that his cousin raved about...so we went. THe menu had all sorts of goodies on it. So I ordered the 3 little pigs (burger with pulled pork, ham, and bacon) I told the waiter that I was doing Paloe..so no bun for me or croutons on my salad.

When it came..I was bummed cause it had american cheese on it..but I went ahead and ate it anyway..as well as the 3 cups of salad. When we left..hubby was soo stuffed..he ate the burger with the bun..and fries.

I told him I will probably do IF on Saturday cause of the big meal..he was saying it wouldnt fill me up..well its Saturday..I am still good.. but didnt lose any weight..which is ok still standing at 5 pounds lost for the week.

Its interesting once you start reading up on this stuff...how bad it is..yea it killed me to eat the cheese..but it was my mistake for not saying that I didnt want any...hopefully it doesnt cause too many problems

Oh and BTW....going to a white trash party tonight..had no idea what to take..so making Paleo chili..with Elk Meat...should be interesting..atleast there will be something that I can eat at this party...

Chili sounds like an excellent dish to take to a party, I'm sure it will be a hit.

I wouldn't beat myself up over the cheese too much if I was you. This isn't about being perfect, it's about making choices and learning what works for you. This will be a great opportunity to see how you react to the cheese, and you will remember next time you order that dish if it's worth it to ask for them to take it off or not.

I get annoyed when restaurants don't fully describe what is included in a dish. I don't expect EVERYTHING down to spices and things but if you garnish a dish with things like bread crumb topping, nuts, or a sprinkle of cheese, you should darn well disclose that.

Weeeeeelllll....to a certain extent. But remember': "Caveat Emptor" - let the buyer beware. As we eat outside of the mainstream, it is our responsibility to make the necessary inquiries and not make assumptions. I have no problem sending the waiter back to the kitchen to find out what's on a dish - that's his job. If he's good at alerting me to any "gotchas" on the menu - I tip him appropriately. ;)

I can't disagree with that! However, when I order a shrimp appetizer from a menu that lists it as "shrimp sauteed in white wine, , extra virgin olive oil and garlic" I expect a version of shrimp scampi that might include a sprinkle of parsley. I do not expect tomatoes, olives and a heavy sprinkle of parmesan cheese. There was nothing to suggest those ingredients would be included and no picture on the menu. When they brought it too me, I asked if that was the dish I ordered and was told yes. I happen to be fine with those things and just enjoyed the dish. But I did send them an email letting them know their menu description was misleading. If I hadn't been okay with them, I would have sent it back immediately. There are some things I know I have to ask about but this instance was one where I feel the menu was misleading.

Several times I have gotten salads with undisclosed almonds which I am allergic to. As nut allergies are common and can be life-threatening, this is definitely something that should be disclosed in menu descriptions and I don't feel like I should have to grill the server to find out about.
